Lung cancer diagnosis

I'm so confused. My lovely Dad has been under investigation for his lungs since October last year. Multiple CT scans, bronchoscopies.

7 months ago they decided to treat him for Mycobacterium Chimera (super rare non contagious TB).

He was admitted to hospital on the 22/09/26 with dangerously low magnesium. He was then diagnosed with a stage 4 tumour as his most recent scan had shown it had spread from left lung to right and was in his lymph nodes.

Now we've been told its probably not cancer, its the infection.

We just need answers! And either way it's life limiting isn't it?

Can anyone help me understand the above better?

I am heartbroken

Has your dad had any open heart surgeries? That’s normally how mycobacterium chimaera is caught in the UK.

Also, how old is your dad, and is he (or has he ever been) a smoker?
