To feel quite depressed and despairing of the human race

I know there’s lots of nice decent people out there and I like to think most people fall into that category. But reading stories about cops tasering an elderly man with dementia, monkey torture rings, a gang seriously assaulting a father and son in their own home , makes me despair and almost dislike the human race . Those stories are just what’s in the news today. I just don’t know what goes through some peoples heads - I really don’t. Am I being dramatic tho ?

The human race has always been full of cunts. It's also full of wonderful people who do beautiful things, and then everything in between. All you can do is make the bit of life that's around you as good as you can.

I know what you mean OP. Every time I switch on the news theres another horrendous situation happening, more people trying (and succeeding) to kill other people.
It's important to think about the people you come across day to day though, they are not like that - well I hope they aren't anyway! Most people are not evil.

OP, I'm curious about where you are seeing these stories. Is it on social media?

Social media algorithms are awful things.

If you are clicking on stories like this, it will show you more.

It then doesn't take long for the rabbit hole to widen and widen, and you are seeing awful stuff all the time.

Try not to click on these things. Click on the less dramatic/ more positive things you see when they come up, and if you see a story like this, click next to it and tell it you are not interested/ don't want to see it.

Once your feeds stop being full of this horrible stuff, you will probably feel a bit better. You are despairing because your head is being filled with it whenever you look at your phone (not your fault, the algorithm's fault, but you can change it).

I would say the majority of humans are selfish and cause harm and violence to others by the choices they make in life. Most people aren't literally torturing other sentient beings but paying to have someone else do it instead. Most people are not "good".

Most humans are awful (we're just talky chimpanzees). Yabu to be surprised. I know most people who have kids are necessarily in denial about this.

And morality as you understand it is subjective. It was fine to keep slaves and make executions into torture musicals in Roman times.

The western world is becoming more savage I think. I mean, the Americans are now planning to broadcast an execution by firing squad for people’s entertainment. A new barbarian age has begun.

Yes there some to be more and more horrible people, around and violence towards women. How many times do we keep hearing about a baby being killed by a mums boyfriend too and mum allows it to happen or sometimes joins in.
The mother was a right horrible piece herself and had 3 kids by 3 different men and lived in a filthy hovel and claimed benefits and smoked. Ewweww how can you have no standards and be like that 🤢 🤢

All these things we used to hear that felt rare ate now happening on a bigger scale.
Just when you think you've heard the worst you can hear someone else comes along and lowers the bar and does something else.

The majority of people are good but I also believe that the majority of people are capable of very bad things depending on the circumstances. If it was a life or death situation I know I could kill some one to save my child or family member for example. I could steal if I needed food. I don’t think I could ever torture someone though or hurt an animal to make it suffer. I could kill one for food if I had too.
I do believe there are large numbers of psychopaths who walk amongst us who have learned how they are ‘supposed ‘ to behave in a civilised society. If that civilisation starts to slip then I believe we could be living in extremely dangerous times. They behave now and follow the laws because otherwise they run the risk of being caught. Take the risk away and I dread to think what the world could become.Survival of the fittest again. And that comes down to physical prowess and ability to treat everyone else as expendable.

No you’re not. I think on a regular basis, about the case of the poor girl (Scotland) who was in care. She was separated from her siblings. She managed to get in contact with a brother, whom she met in a park. He raped and murdered her and hid her body in the bushes. A passerby found the body of that poor girl and sexually assaulted her.
What makes it worse, only 5 months before she was raped by a registered sex offender. She was 16. I believe people do evil things when they have the opportunity….she was extremely vulnerable therefore evil found a way.

You don’t have to switch on the news to know that people are morons. Just look at the litter on the verges, the fly tipping, Mac Donald’s shite discarded from car windows. Just been on a pleasant cathedral tour, to have the guide point out the medieval stained glass window that someone deliberately smashed, and the fire damage caused by a deliberately started fire beneath centuries old painted ceilings. People have no respect.

The human race is exactly the same as it has been for centuries, in fact for millennia. Most people don't do any of the things you mention but, obviously, they don't make the news.
If these things upset you, OP, just stop watching/reading. But you also badly need to develop some sensible perspective.

Only a few days ago, people on this very site were queuing up to say they would happily kill 10000 others to save their own child. Yep most of us seem to be without morals.

Agree, people will tell you you are being unreasonable but healthcare, work, pay , environment, leadership everything is getting worse.
