She gives all her time to her new boyfriend

Close friend of 15 plus years. She's around 7 years younger than me, in her late thirties.

A bit of background. She split up from a fairly long-term relationship at the end of 2024, and around two or three months later in 2025, I started seeing someone after being single myself for several years.

Now friend and I would usually spend a fair bit of time together at the weekends, but this all had to fit around her previous relationship. Suddenly single, a long time coming though, she wanted to spend a lot more time with me. And constant phone calls that would go on for hours, sometimes late at night. And sometimes that was OK, depending on work for me. Or any friend available tbh. But I'd just met new man so my attention was now sometimes elsewhere.

She took an instant dislike to him for no apparent reason and threw hissy fits at me for seeing him on a Saturday night or twice a week. But I would still go out with her on Fridays or Sundays. I never ignored her or neglected her. But she said some very bitchy things that I could only put down to jealousy as we were really getting on. Accused me of giving all my time to him, which was not true at all.

She acted so unhinged about my new boyfriend... I still have the messages from last year... that it broke our friendship. She was very cruel, very judgemental, thought he wasn't good enough, said some horrendous things about him. In the end it didn't work out with him, we split up earlier this year.

Then out of the blue old friend reappears, I run into her, we reconnect. She started seeing someone new last year and seems very happy.

So it's kind of interesting what is happening now. We had agreed to go to the theatre on Sunday night. This was agreed ages ago. I bought us the tickets, got a really good deal and was very much looking forward to it. What happens today? A message, apologising. New boyfriend has now organised something else so sorry, she can't go now. I offered to see her tomorrow or later on today. Nope, She's seeing him. Do I have time on Monday evening now.

I never did this to her and it feels like a punch in the face somehow. She sees him pretty much every night, stays at his house constantly. He sometimes goes away for work for three or four days at a time and she goes on about how much she misses him. So last night, tonight, tomorrow night and most of Sunday... with him. Despite us making plans.

Am I right to feel put out?

She is not your friend. Friends don't act like that

You’s have drifted apart and you’re trying to cling on to something that is no longer there.

I think you could be right.

She has really pushed to meet up, but cancelled repeatedly.

I think we're just too different. There's a lot of immaturity there as well, some nights out ended in her starting fights with random people for no good reason, no real off switch when drinking and very outspoken and aggressive.

Time to let it go.

She sounds horrible.
