AIBU to say this could be bullying or do you think it's normal childhood behaviour

There's a boy in my DD's class (yr1) who I know fairly well (I'll call him Ash- not real name). He's always been a bit quieter.
Today I noticed other kids were pushing past him at the park and not giving him his turn, parent was busy with a younger child so didn't notice. Then on the way home DD said "Ash is so weird, we all think that". I said that's not very kind, why do you think that. DD then said another boy in their class calls him weird every day and everyone laughs. It just seems so mean. I told DD that's not nice and imagine if that was you ect but not sure she understood
I know the parents, they are nice. They are quite strict about food and he often isn't allowed sweets ect when given out at school. ( Which I kind of agree with but I admit don't do myself). I mention this because I wondered if that could be part of what the other kids are picking up on.

Would you be concerned or is this normal behaviour? I wasn't sure if I should tell them? Or would this worry them unnecessarily?!
Not sure if I'm overthinking it, it's my first child and I'm pregnant with 2nd so it could just be my hormones making me emotional.

Yes that is bullying and you should a) tell your DD this is wrong and b) inform school you've heard about it happening.

It’s unkind of your child and the other kids to say he is weird. Some kids are odd, different and never get accepted by others. Often due to being neurodiverse. It’s sad, the best you can do is keep an eye reinforcing to your child that being mean is very unkind. If you see that child being pushed around again, then step in and say don’t push. I would. Or speak to someone at school about it. It gets so much worse for these children if it’s allowed to continue through infant school and into juniors/secondary. Y1 meanness can turn into bullying pretty fast. Sadly some parents have the same attitude as their kids and are not welcoming to those quirky kids.

Yes I'd be pulling DD up sharpish on that. No kid of mine would be calling anyone else the W word unless with an undertone of admiration. I'd also probably have a word with the teacher about the other kids.

Thank you all for the advice.
Yes I'll definitely email the teacher.
