AIBU to hope that HRT will cure my aches and pains?

I've never had HRT before. I'm 57. My last period was in May. I also had one in April, but my previous period to that was August 2025 (I had hoped that was the last one!). My lower back aches so much. Will HRT help with aches and pains? My mood is fine and I sleep relatively ok, although I do wake about 4 times a night.

It should make you feel so much better and fairly quickly....no one should be waking 4 times a night!
Make sure to ask for topical treatment as well for vaginal atrophy.
If it doesn't help with the back pain you can look at other reasons

Depends on the cause of your problems, but
I certainly found I was less achey after starting HRT.

Remember the Tin Man in the Wizard of Oz? I was like that until I went on HRT and it was like having my joints oiled.

I'm your sort of age, I started HRT a couple of years ago, it definitely helped with my aching joints, especially legs and arms.
I also take a vitamin supplement that has definitely helped - Vitabiotics Jointace max.

It helped me - joint pain was my main symptom along with dry eyes. I can sit on the floor and spring back up like, well a slightly overweight 50 yr old, but much better than before!

HRT did nothing for my joints

Lottapianos · 09/10/2026 13:06

Yes, my joints feel a lot better since starting HRT. Mine took a good 8 weeks to kick in so stick with it

Don't forget exercise! Motion is lotion. You need to be moving those joints to keep them healthy. Make sure you're taking a vitamin D3 supplement along with vitamin K2 for your bone health

It is worth a try, it works for some people.

I mean this kindly so please don’t take this as a criticism at all, but are you overweight?

I have always been active and still do a lot of sport, but I gained about 10Kg in the peri menopause years. The HRT helped somewhat with joint pain, but the greatest benefits came once I had shed that excess weight.

Hrt cured my aching joints after the first week and the aching and stiffness has never come back. Beford hrt I felt about 95 and couldn't bend over to put my socks on in the morning.

Stretching and doing those morning swing things is what keeps us from aching.
Not being overweight and keeping things supple. And drinking enough fluid. And not over doing it!

I'm not a fan of HRT - I did not like seeing the tablets and the patches, knowing I was 'on medication' and then I grew fibroids, which I found out from Mumsnet are from 'cheap, mass produced oestrogen and to come off immediately.'

Are you over working? Are you doing daily stretches? Are you sedentary?

I started one week ago and already feeling better

DramaAlpaca · 09/10/2026 13:49

I started HRT at 58 and all my aches and pains disappeared or at least improved. It's fantastic.

blondeseaside · 09/10/2026 13:51

Ooh, this is sounding very hopeful!!

HRT doesn't cause fibroids.
If you already have fibroids, it might cause them to increase in size, but they will settle down eventually.

It defo helped a bit. It’s not a cure-all, but I’m defo better than I was. Worth a try op.
