Are school photos a thing of the past?

Really, in the days of virtually everyone having a camera, is there any point in having school photos anymore? I got sucked into it a few times when DD was in primary school but looking back now, it’s a bit of an anachronism.

A girl sitting for a school photo. She has long red hair and a red head band on. She has a black blazer, a light blue shirt and a black, yellow and blue tie. She smiles at the camera.

AI is being used to steal school pictures, photographers warn

Ian Gilbert says he's heard parents boasting about using AI to take the watermark off his photos.

No for older relatives like me, I look forward to receiving them. They are SO cute!!!!

They’re far too expensive, especially when you have multiple children and often they’re not even super flattering. They charge £30 now just for a digital copy of it so no physical copies at all, just so you can own the photo and print it yourself. Ridiculous.

Las year I took DDs to Asda in stead, as grandoarents wanted picture of both together (and school had been hideous).

Its was far better than school, and higher quality than home

I always just bought the digital copy and then got more copies or framing done by Photobox and the like as it was much cheaper to get the extra done that way. Some years the photos didn't come out well at all and I just kept the proof. DH has a very good camera and can do a much better job than some of the school ones.

The problem is they are usually a big chain who often use inexperienced photographers. Nice racket while it lasted.
