What are we going today when in the end there will not be enough jobs for everybody?

We just keep seeing job losses? 😔

People don't post letters any more and Royal Mail are too shit to capitalise on online parcel delivery. Job cuts are inevitable. No comfort to the people involved, but on a national level, probably offset by jobs gained with DPD, Amazon etc. etc.

AgnesX · 07/10/2026 16:47

I'm not surprised because of their inability to actually deliver a parcel. Why is it that Amazon can deliver within 48 hours practically flawlessly but delivery by the RM is the better part of a week. They can't be trusted to deliver when they say they will.

Royal Mail deliver Amazon parcels - all non Prime, and some Prime.

As per the article there are no cuts to front line jobs being announced.

There will be 2,500 people queuing up for VR .. especially if they can access a Pension. I doubt there will be much compulsory redundancy. Voluntary and Redeployment will take care of most of it

Yes, I know. Whenever Royal Mail are involved, the Amazon delivery date is invariably missed. They are useless.

I read it was in the offices not delivery so surely wont make a difference to parcels and letters

I’ve sent just under 3000 parcels in the last 12 months, all Royal Mail tracked 48. Only had a problem with one.
I’ve ordered 5 things using Amazon Prime, one didn’t arrive, one came over a week late and one was thrown over the fence and damaged.

I guess they didn't help themselves with the Post Office Scandal but all we hear is Job cuts everywhere.

Are you having a laugh. My Amex bill arrived today. It was paid last Thursday the 1st. It used to arrive and is still posted to arrive 10 days before the 1st of the month...so 17 days late

Selling off a publicly owned body, then seeing huge price rises, poorer service, and jobs cut? Shocked, no-one could have foreseen that. 🙄

MagneticSquirrel · 07/10/2026 17:48

2500 is around 2% of 113,000 jobs though that must be less than their normal attrition rate! It’s makes a nice headline but it’s not a lot of jobs for that size organisation.

PaterPower · 07/10/2026 17:59

The people that bid for RM said they’d cut jobs and the service if they weren’t freed from the universal postage obligation.

Nobody should be surprised that they’re now ‘delivering’ (pun intended) on that promise / warning.

You do because that makes headlines. The reality is that there are 60,000 more jobs in the UK over the last year (according to the ONS). But that doesn't sell newspapers, drive clicks or make people froth so we just highlight the losses rather than the gains.

ibeentothetop · 07/10/2026 19:07

I’ve never had an issue with Royal Mail.

The Post Office and Royal Mail are two different companies now and have been for quite some time.

My friend works for Royal Mail and it's been mismanaged for years. They're not replacing leavers/retirees and when they can recruit people don't stay because it's so badly organised. This comes as no surprise.
