I have tried everything (heat, white vinegar, bicarb paste, stain remover) it seems bizarre that I can’t get rid of the stains.

Is there anything else I could try?

many thanks!

Exactly. You did everything, some stains just don't come out. I'm sure you've got better things to do

Balloonhearts · 06/10/2026 15:56

Salt and toothpaste. Whitening toothpaste. Mix them up together and scrub it in with a brush before leaving half hour to sit. Then rinse it cold and wash as normal.

Thanks, I haven’t tried Vanish only the eco version.

Also haven’t tried soda crystals either.

Two more shots at avoiding landfill!

Ace bleach is pretty good. The one in the blue bottle is good for general stains, etc, but the one in the white bottle is very potent.

Use it carefully, and sparingly, is my advice.

ConBatulations · 06/10/2026 16:03

Have you tried this one? May take a few applications.

I found S C Johnson 'shout stain remover' very effective.
I spray it on the armpit area before it gets washed.

goingtotown · 06/10/2026 16:52

Liquid Bio Ariel, massage into the stain leave overnight, wash as usual.

oviraptor21 · 06/10/2026 16:54

Don't put it in landfill. Put it in clothes recycling.

Is he not wearing good anti perspirant deodorant?

Sometimes it's the build up on deodorant on the fabric too. DH shirts are bad for this, apparently it's the aluminium in the front that does it.

Try working in fairy washing up liquid with a toothbrush, and bicarb or vanish to make a paste,.leave it to sit for a few hours before washing. It should breakdown the residue and remove the stains. Also fabric conditioner can make it worse.

But I did have to chuck one of dh's dark shirts at the weekend, tried everything!

Ilovemyshed · 06/10/2026 18:37

Vanish oxy spray. Then wash as hot as the fabric allows

17to35 · 07/10/2026 08:58

The Dr Beckmann mentioned above is a weaker version of the good old DeoGo which I can’t find any more.
it is a build up of sweat and deodorant that causes the problem

lemoncurdcupcake · 07/10/2026 09:02

I'd probably also be in the give up camp by this point.

Haven't met a stain that bicarb/vinegar/vanish and a day in the sun hasn't eradicated though. Leaving it in direct sunshine seems to be the key factor.

notnorman · 07/10/2026 09:07

hot direct sunshine gets rid of stains. Works for me in my second home… in the uk not so much!

Julynian · 07/10/2026 09:22

Sodium percarbonate - mix with warm water into a paste to rub in, leave for a bit, wash and hang in sunlight.

CMOTDibbler · 07/10/2026 09:37

Soak in Napisan

Hankunamatata · 07/10/2026 09:40

If its a white shirt. Bleach.

Pleasedontputthatthere · 07/10/2026 10:57

I cannot state highly enough how good the fairy soap bars are, so cheap and very effective. I was able t get creosote out of a top using one!

Autumnallaround · 07/10/2026 11:03

Great thread op. My DHs shirts get destroyed by deodorant stains. They are sort of grey stains on his blue shirts. (100% cotton).

I might try some of these on our white pillowfases that have gone from loveky and crisp to sort of yellowed and oily - doesn't matter how hot I wash them or that they are line dried.
