How to give a fuck during perimenopause

AnaColombiana · 06/10/2026 08:44

It's hit very suddenly. Completely demotivated, don't give a fuck about anything, could happily light a match to my life and walk away. I don't want to work, I don't want to socialise, I don't want to speak to people, I don't care how I come across. How am I meant to continue? I have a very busy life with 2 kids and everything that comes with that. Need some serious advice please.

HRT?

Rumors1 · 06/10/2026 08:49

HRT massively helped me especially the progesterone which I understand isnt prescribed as part of HRT in UK if you are still having periods. I take Utrogestan 14 days a month and sleep like a baby those nights!

I’m the same. I want to be a human snail most of the time and retreat to a shell.

Are you on HRT?

My motivation has nosedived over the past couple of years and all those hormones that kept me keen and compliant to adhere to the social contract have fucked off. It’s rather numbing combined with a feeling of detachment and irritation.

Sometimes it an be self-sabotaging too (especially as I’m diagnosed ADHD) and I find myself feeling like a sleepwalking observer in my own life.

Thing that have helped me function are HRT, shit loads of supplements and vitamins, making lists and concentrating on creating times in my day/life to force myself to be fully ‘present’ with family.

Also talking about it. I live in a house of girls with my daughters. Some days it’s a simmering maelstrom of hormones but it helps that we’re all female so can understand.

How old are your DC?

Sending DGAF solidarity 💐

It’s the opposite way round in the UK - if you’re still having periods/haven’t had a hysterectomy then HRT is oestrogen and progesterone to stop endometrial thickening and cancer risk.

That usually because they have the mirena

Stickortwister · 06/10/2026 09:59

Hrt.
I wouldnt be able to work without it and would probably be divorced too.

Extrachoc · 06/10/2026 10:09

I’m in the same boat, OP, except I’ve quit my job as I was becoming incredibly stressed and anxious. Really low moods, can’t be bothered with anything. Tried different types of HRT, but it seems I’m one of the fucking few who don’t do well with progesterone. Fml.

Rattai · 06/10/2026 10:13

How does the progesterone help your mood etc? I know it's for thinning of the womb lining

Those three magic letters are your friend, OP.
