Psychic dreamings

Yep, I’m a scientist. And yes, I’ve been having ‘psychic’ dreams for want of a better description. Always things that are happening or have happened to people around me I would have absolutely no idea about (I never have predictive dreams). For instance, last night I had a dream about my friend’s mum (whom I’ve not seen for years and whose life I know nothing about), whose oldest friend (just a random person I knew was her oldest friend) appeared in the dream. When I woke up I text my friend and told her I dreamt about her mum and I hoped she was ok. She replied to say that the night before her mum had got a call to say her oldest/best friend was about to die. Just shit like this. I could tell you loads more. I’ve always been sensitive but these dreams are getting more regular now - maybe it’s the menopause. Never dream about where my lost keys are tho. What the hell is going on? Happy to hear from anyone else who has this shit too.

I believe Jung called this the collective subconscious @robespierresvirtue. My daughter also has this - not sure she'd call it a gift. It scares her a bit. I find it fascinating.

Thank you I will go and have a look at this. My work is so rational and this feels like madness. There are very few people to whom
i feel I can disclose this.

You'll have lots of people come on and tell you it's coincidence or your imagination but in point of fact there is so much that we don't know.

My inklings aren't as strong as yours, but if I've been meditating regularly (rather than letting it slip, I mean) I find that people come into my head who get in touch later that day. I've had the strong urge to get in the car to go and get my DD (no arrangement made with her) because I know she's in some kind of trouble - and I'm really glad I did.

I know that it's called a gift but I think it is also a challenge. You can't stop it, I think acceptance is the key - rather than embracing or denying it I mean. And as you've said, you'd be wise to be very careful who you disclose it to. If someone has a closed mind, why should you listen to them telling you it's your imagination? Or have to go to the trouble of putting up an argument when you know what you are experiencing.

@Torturedbydoubt i was brought up in an evangelical Christian household and anything like this was cast as demonic, so it does scare me slightly. But I remember being told in the church I had a ‘gift’ of being able to ‘give words’ from God, which I think this ties into. I sound nuts. Hope my boyfriend doesn’t read this!

I have had a couple of dreams like this. I dreamt that a school friend’s father told me her mum (his wife) had died the night she actually died. I was still in contact with my friend and knew her mum had been ill but in a Christmas card type of way rather than regular contact. When my friend sent a message to say her mum had died I found it extremely unsettling. I genuinely can’t explain it. It was too specific and lucid to be a coincidence. Sorry I can’t help with an explanation but I can empathise with feeling a bit odd about having dreams like this.

Dd gets this sometimes and I do wonder if it is a lot of pattern recognition from social cues that most people don't order logically. When you sleep some brains are hardwired to fix the puzzle/create the logic (not always but sometimes). So what might be happening, if we put a logical spin on it, is that you knew your mum's friend was ill for a while, she has mentioned her in a call some time recently and your brain has filled in the gaps. We pick up a lot from tone of voice, speech patterns and words that aren't expressly stated. Lots of clues.

Of course we have also had very weird ones, where my name kept popping up in different settings for 2 solid days. It isn't a common name and the stories/shows/newspaper articles were not linked at all. It was very odd and as if someone were trying to get my attention. Then it stopped and I moved on. Of course statistically that is a possibility and although rare, could just be coincidence. I was a bit worried at the time that our only other family member might die, but nothing weird happened, just my name over and over.

I had several dreams that "came true" when I was in my teens and early 20s. They all left me with a very uncomfortable "hangover" (for want of a better word) and I would mention them to my boyfriend, so he knew I wasn't bullshitting when I said "oh my god! That was in my dream!"

I thought I must have some special powers or something and got excited about it, but once there'd been enough incidents to convince me (and him) that I was "special" they stopped.

I think the Universe decided to bring me back down to earth ☺️

Maybe I’m not so special after all. Who knows what it all is/means. Thanks for letting me know I’m not alone and there may well be a rational explanation for it all (although I’d love it if I were actually psychic, obvs)
