Is this too much flying in 17 days?

Is it going to knacker me out?! Almost all are under 2 hours, and I’ll be going hand luggage only:

London to Lisbon

Lisbon to Barcelona

Barcelona to Geneva

Milan to UK

I’m thinking it’s just about doable, because in the midst of all that I’ll be getting quite a few trains in Switzerland and Austria.

You'll be tired at the end of the week. But it isn't insurmountable.

MeowDoku · 05/10/2026 20:02

How much time will you actually get to stop and see/do things? No point checking all of those places off your list but not really experiencing them, or is it for work?

Globules · 05/10/2026 20:03

Depends whether you like flying or not.

I toured India this summer. I took 6 flights of 60-90 mins in 10 days. 2 of those flights were a day trip to Amritsar from Delhi.

I'd be fine with what you're asking. Only you know if you will be fine with it.

I don’t think you’ll be tired, unless it means you’ll be getting less sleep. 2hrs on a plane isn’t as tiring as two hours walking around hilly Lisbon.

plutopuff · 05/10/2026 20:05

I would do
London to Geneva
Geneva to Milan
Milan to Barcelona
Barcelona to Lisbon
Lisbon to London

but maybe you have other constraints!

FettleOfKish · 05/10/2026 20:06

17 days, so 2 and a half weeks? Unless you have some kind of health condition that makes you more tired than average I wouldn’t think so? I’ve flown much more than that in that time frame. Notably Jersey > London > Singapore > Bali > Hong Kong > London > Jersey, and I was pregnant at the time.

Then you could just get the train from Geneva to Milan, I've done that one.

It will be tiring, not because of the length of the flight but the transit to and from the airport plus queues in the airport etc. It's not just the 2 hrs.

For your first flight (London to Lisbon is closer to 3 hrs btw) let's say you cut it fine and get to the airport exactly 2 hrs before departure. However long to get there, let's say 1 hr, plus 2 hours airport time, plus 3 hrs flight time and then depending on where you are staying around 30 - 40 mins transfer after getting g your luggage. So that first leg is at least 7hrs. Then what are you doing in between that and the next flight? Work or sightseeing? The next flight will obviously be a bit shorter but you still need to get to the airport, spend 2 hrs there, fly, then get from Barcalona airport to where eber you are staying again.

Also are any of the flights early? If you need to be at the airport by 6am you might have fewer travel options and getting up early is going to be tiring too.

Agreed,

What's planned isn't much more than a shorthaul
crew might do in a long day/ certainly less than two days.

It's what's packed around it that might be the tirîng bit.

ETA I agree with the points I've just seen @WonderingWanda has made about the hassle wrapped around the flights but still don't think it should be that wearing,.especially hand baggage only.

mynameiscalypso · 05/10/2026 20:16

Are you an EU passport holder? I think the main risk is getting stuck in long queues somewhere otherwise. It’s perfectly doable though especially as you’re not going long haul to no real time zones to contend with.

Favouritefruits · 05/10/2026 20:16

It’s not the flights that will kill you it’s the waiting around the airport from hours before each flight and cancellations and delays. The flight bit will be fine, they are all relatively short.

titchy · 05/10/2026 20:17

You’ll waste a lot of time. Flights may well be only 2 hours, but add on getting to airport two hours before, then getting to destination, and that’s 5 hours gone that could have been spent actually looking round somewhere. Overnight trains rather than flights would solve that problem though….

there aren’t really any direct overnight trains!

5 nights in Lisbon and 4 in Barcelona, admittedly only 2 in Geneva but I’m then getting the train to Innsbruck (long, but apparently gorgeous) and then the train from Innsbruck to Bolzano in Italy
