Could we miss our 1st or 2nd Choice?

Posting here for traffic as kind of urgent.

I am doing secondary school admission applications. The 3rd choice secondary school offers performing arts scholarships. If you are successful in securing a scholarship, the school will automatically offer you admission and secure you a place. Decisions are released end of this month.

My question is, if we are successful in securing a scholarship with 3rd choice secondary school, on offer day, would the council's education board still consider us for our 1st or 2nd choices? Or would the offer from our 3rd choice remove us from consideration for other choices?
Anyone had this experience? How do applications work at the borough level?
Application deadline for the scholarship is tonight.

As I understand it, you list your school preferences in order and get offered a place at your first choice that you meet the criteria for. So if your first choice offers a place and your third choice offers you a place, you get the first choice place. The scholarship is a red herring.

I am just a random person on the internet though.

No the above PP is correct. You list your schools in the order of preference, nothing else.

You are offered the highest placed school on your list that actually has a place.

So if you want school 3 but child will only get in on a scholarship then put that 1st. If she doesn't get the scholarship she'll then be offered her 2nd or 3rd place.

I think it's as posted above. You need to rank the schools in order you want them to be. If the third school is actually your first choice pending scholarship then you would need to put it as first choice and hope the scholarship happens, or be willing to accept another school if it didn't.

For example son wanted to go to the grammar school. We knew he had passed the 11+ as they tell you that. What you don't know is where they ranked. So ultimately putting the grammar school as first choice was risky as potentially he might have passed the rest but not made the 160 place cut off, and then if popular he might not have got the second choice if fully subscribed meaning he would have had to have gone to the third choice.

100% this
If you put the scholarship school as number 1 but no scholarship what will you do?

Thanks, everyone.
3rd choice is not the first choice. It's the 3rd preference.
The 3rd choice offers a scholarship which we want to apply for. If your application is successful, he school automatically reserves a place for you at the school.

I wanted to know if at the council level for offer day, if we were to have been offered our 1st choice anyway, whether we would miss out on it IF the scholarship for 3rd choice is successful.

The scholarship does not make the school a higher preference for us. It still remains 3rd choice.

I assume you would as if you get your first choice then that’s what you’ll be offered. You won’t know if you’ve been successful in your second and third choices. So if you want your third choice you need to put it first. It’s in order of preference of where you want them to attend.

The school won’t have a clue where else you have picked. I remember one of the head teachers saying this at open day.
