To not want a frog in my loo

Twice now in the last few weeks have I went to my downstairs loo to find a frog in the bowl 😳 I’m not scared of frogs but I’m not the biggest fan. I don’t understand why this is happening , can they swim up into the bowl because that’s the only way they could get in. Anyway to deter them? 😅

Does your plumbing stack / soil stack have a protective cowling on the top? It’s moray likely to have climbed on your house and fallen into the stack seeking moisture.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/10/2026 19:31

Speak to it in French, that'll put the wind up it and it will.hop off somewhere else tres vite.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 02/10/2026 19:35

Gosh, that's exotic, OP! I normally just get an invasion of woodlouse, spiders and moths, mice living in the walls (thank goodness it's not the rats that one of the neighbours had!), and wild rabbits decimating most of my plants!

AI says that frogs will climb down your roof's plumbing vent stack (which you can block off with fine mesh) or travel up through your sewer pipe. You're also supposed to cut back any overhanging trees and keep the lid down... just in case any of them decide to explore your house! Are you on a septic tank or mains sewerage? You might have a broken cap or pipe somewhere along the line.

You could make froggy a pond?

Humdingergum · 02/10/2026 19:35

Yabu for not calling your thread "frog in my bog"🤣

NooNakedJacuzziness · 02/10/2026 19:36

A bog frog! Slam the loo seat on his head and he might kermit suicide

KnickerlessParsons · 02/10/2026 19:37

I have heard of rats swimming up into toilets but not frogs. So count yourself lucky!

Shedmistress · 02/10/2026 19:38

Aw is it the same frog or do you have 2?

I take it you are taking them out and putting them under a damp shrub outside or something?

rightoguvnor · 02/10/2026 19:51

I’d get a drain survey, you might have a crack in the pipe going from your bathroom to the main sewer.
Freaky and shocking, but I can’t spend too much time with you on this tonight. I have the mother of all spiders in my utility and my work uniform needs to come out of the washing machine and I can’t see Mrs S, she scuttled when I put the light on. It’s not a pint glass job, definitely need the Pyrex mixing bowl for her.

InkyWink · 02/10/2026 19:52

@Schoolmove Moray?! That's all OP needs 🤣

spacecowboypeanut · 02/10/2026 20:46

To answer some questions, I’m not sure if it’s the same frog or different 😅

The first one I flushed away as I’d just done a number two, it wasn’t there when I sat down not sure if it was hiding under the rim. Second frog was rescued by my neighbour as I noticed him first, lucky frog.

I do apologise for not having a more creative title, I’ll do better next time.

I’m on main sewerage.

Ah holy shit. We get loads of frogs here, I've never considered them climbing up the pipes. Must remember to always turn on the light and check the seat first.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 02/10/2026 20:52

You’re supposed to kiss the frog and he’ll turn into a prince.

I definitely remember reading an article on this subject.

LivelyGreyShark · 02/10/2026 21:03

I don't want to worry you but I'd get that dealt with asap just in case you find a certain native species who eats frogs there next.

malloryknox123 · 02/10/2026 21:07

OMG can we see a picture of the froggen?

You are not being unreasonable to not want a frog in your loo, but I really, really, really want a frog in my loo

Releasemeplease · 02/10/2026 21:49

Oh my goodness OP!
I'm frightened to use my own loo after seeing your photo. That's really scary.

MsSmartShoes · 02/10/2026 21:57

Aw. I’d be quite chuffed, if slightly concerned for the frog. I always feel lucky when I encounter British wildlife.

Heyhelga · 02/10/2026 21:58

Maybe Toilet Frog kills the remaining 0.01% of germs that Toilet Duck leaves behind.

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 02/10/2026 22:02

Your toilet frog is pretty cute OP.

Wewinnow · 02/10/2026 22:05

I once found a frog in the loo at a French camp site - it was almost 40 years ago but I still have a thing about keeping toilet lids shut!

Seeingadistance · 02/10/2026 22:06

spacecowboypeanut · 02/10/2026 21:23

Just for you 😆

Aw!

You're very lucky!

Hotandpointy · 02/10/2026 22:08

Do you have a cat OP? Ours bring frogs in sometimes and we find them hopping around the house, the last one was on the landing but they can just pretty high and it could have got into the loo.
