AIBU to snap after DH dragged out simple holiday hotel advice?

Diagno · 01/10/2026 23:04

I’m trying to book a holiday but DH said his mate from work goes to this holiday spot every single year and he’d been telling him all about it and would be able to give us some great advice. I know how this goes … DH will hang on this guys every word no matter what I say so I said to him “ok, well I’m a bit stuck on hotels so ask him about that tomorrow (today)”

Do he comes home from work tonight and this was the convo

Me: did you ask your mate about hotels?
DH: yeah he was saying he goes every year without fail so they know all about it
Me: ok, what did he say about hotels?
DH: well, normally they go in November time but he was saying this time he got a last minute deal for October!
Me: and what did he say about hotels?
Dh: well he knows how how to get the best deals, he said they pay £3k max, nothing like the prices you were getting
Me: did you ask him about hotels??
DH: yeah he said you should ring him and he’ll tell you all about it …

At this point he starts to do an impression of me ringing this guy up complete with me typing the numbers, holding the phone to my ear waiting for an answer, saying hello etc etc … I let this ridiculousness complete and then said …

Me: well it’s just hotels I’m interested in really, did you ask him?
DH: Yeah, he recommended a few, he said you don’t need anything fancy
Me: DH!! Can you just tell me the hotels he recommended for the love of god!?
DH: I wrote them down but left the paper at work, I’ll get it tomorrow

FFS he could have just come in and said “spoke to mate, I’ve left the recommendations at work though so I’ll get them tomorrow”

WTF does he do this?? He does it all the time! It’s like he deliberately withholds the important information you’re waiting for but why?

WIBU for snapping at him and telling him what a waste of time that whole conversation was?

He sounds like a complete idiot. Maybe you find this an attractive trait but I certainly don’t.

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 01/10/2026 23:11

Just book a hotel you like the look of. Possibly without your DH....

JLou08 · 01/10/2026 23:12

Maybe he wants a conversation with his wife that lasts more than 30 seconds. Or maybe he is tired and not thinking straight.
You sound quite harsh.

SoThatsTheWayItIs · 01/10/2026 23:17

Sympathies my husband only ever uses a thousand words when ten would suffice.

SoThatsTheWayItIs · 01/10/2026 23:20

It's a family trait his sister left me a 4 minute voice message last week which essentially was "would you be available to pick my kids up from school next Tuesday and Wednesday as I have a work thing"

MyArtfulGreySloth · 01/10/2026 23:20

Honestly I would find this insufferable.

takealettermsjones · 01/10/2026 23:25

The impression is the weirdest bit! What's that about?

Liverpoolxxx · 01/10/2026 23:27

My mum would do this. Tell me about a bargain she’d found when shopping and insist on telling me all the various reductions she’d been given.

I can sympathize about your mum. You don't choose your parents. The OP married her annoying person, presumably after knowing him for a while. She knew what he was like, she made her choices.

Toothsome · 01/10/2026 23:31

My dad used to do this with a friend of his whom he, for no reason that was ever clear, worshipped and saw as the font of all knowledge on anything from childbirth to de-icing your windscreen to world peace. This friend, as I mentioned on another Mn thread recently, once put a tinned steak and kidney pie, in its sealed tin, in the oven when his wife was in hospital and blew the door off the oven.

Every time dad quoted his friend’s unassailable knowledge after that we all just shouted ‘Steak and kidney!’

BlackCatBea · 01/10/2026 23:32

My Dh is a bit like this it drives me mad too.
i said to him that why is it i ask a simple question and he talks around the answer rather then just giving the answer.

the impression is weird though whats that about?

Balloonhearts · 01/10/2026 23:35

Customers do this to me. Waffle on, telling me the ins and outs of a cats arse when all I want to know is what sodding date they want. Just get to the fucking point!

XMissPlacedX · 01/10/2026 23:38

My DH is like this, can’t answer a simple question ever, even a question that requires a simple yes or no
is impossible with him. Makes my blood boil. I’ve put it down to either one, or a mixed contribution of:
A: He likes the sound of his own voice
B: doesnt listen to what I am actually saying
C: He has moments of when he turns into a complete moron and can’t understand a simple sentence.

9 years and I’ve still not worked it out

Did the OP's opening post sound to you as if she finds it an attractive trait TF? If it does, we have very different comprehension skills!

XMissPlacedX · 01/10/2026 23:40

Pissing me off thinking about it now actually

Pallisers · 01/10/2026 23:41

I found the idea of him doing an impression of you phoning his mate really funny.

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 01/10/2026 23:42

Omfg this makes me not want a husband

I have no idea how he manages to spend timw with you @SoThatsTheWayItIs because he is my husband, and he spends the vast majority of his time here at home with me...! 🤭

😂 , don’t get one. They are overrated, and it’s a nightmare to exchange them.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 01/10/2026 23:46

He sounds like an utter lunatic. How long have you been together?

ReyRey12 · 01/10/2026 23:51

My bf loves to push things forward. We just talked about a holiday and he always pushes the booking forward until I finally say that we could just do it now. Last week we tasked about holiday, he suggested that we look st our calendars this week, we did today. Now he suggested that we could book in 2 weeks. We know the time we want to go and the destinstion. Not sure why we need to wait. But he does this every time. Usually I say that we could book it now and not wait for jo reason and then he is happy we booked.

Thecatspantaloons · 01/10/2026 23:54

I would have to seduce the colleague and have an affair with him just to piss DH off kill him quite honestly. I might be a little dramatic though 😳.

I'd be looking at trip advisor rather than a man you don't know. His idea of clean and good enough might be miles away from your's. Your DH is a idiot.

SquirrelsEatingConkers · Yesterday 00:37

"Hey! Squirrels! I have something to tell you..."
"I'm busy and I need the loo, can it wait?"
"Listen to this Squirrels..."
"👀🤨🧐"
"no, no, honestly, it'll only take a minute! It's really good! See what happened was, it was really funny, I was at the place and I was talking to Bob. You know Bob, Squirrels, he's such a laugh. So, I was talking to Bob, Squirrels, and he told me this thing and at first it made no sense, but then I eventually got to the true meaning of it and it was like this - he says to me, Bob does, he says xyz happened last week, what do you think of that Squirrels?"
I don't think anything about it, I don't know what you're talking about, I have no context for it!"
"Well it was about this thing that happened last week, Squirrels, it followed on from that, did I tell you about that?"
"No"
"Oh, right, so this other thing happened that was [insert boring mundane long-winded thing here] and then today I was talking to them all and Bob, he says to me, do you know what he says to me Squirrels? He says to me, listen to this, he says xyz happened last week..."
"Is there a point to this story? I really need the loo and the carrots are about to boil over"
"Yes! So as I was saying, he said to me - Bob, this is - he said xyz happened last week and so I told him, I did, I said to Bob, 'listen', I said, I said 'listen Bob, what you want to do', I told him, you see, I said 'what you want to do is ABC, that'll sort it out'. That's what I told Bob, Squirrels and do you know what he did next?"
"did he piss himself, like I'm about to?"
"What?! No, of course he didn't, now what would he do that for?! Squirrels, you say the daftest things. What he did was, he said to me, Bob said to me, you know, because he's knowing all about these things, Bob is, he told me, he did, Bob said to me how he couldn't do abc because of 123. So of course, I didn't know what to say to that!".
"Thank goodness. Go deal with the mess from the carrots, I'm..."
"No! Wait! You have to hear this next bit..."
"FUCK OFF! Or I shall give you a bear hug and piss on your shoes!"
"Hrumph 😤. I was only saying!"

You have my sympathy OP.
