To be annoyed by John lewis bra fitting

Had a bra fitting at John lewis and bought three bras. A month later and they are riding up my back. They clearly don't fit right.
I have so much on my plate and really don't have time to get an alternative bra. I am so annoyed with them.

Sounds like the back is too big if its riding up. Have you tried measuring yourself?

Constantrunner · 01/10/2026 19:17

No. The bra fitter did measure me.
I am actually wondering if the cup should be a size bigger and the band a size lower.

somanychristmaslights · 01/10/2026 19:18

Surely it would feel that way the first time you wore them?

keepswimming38 · 01/10/2026 19:18

Why don’t you call and complain?

Katemax82 · 01/10/2026 19:19

Have you lost weight?

nutbrownhare15 · 01/10/2026 19:20

Bravissimo are good for bra fittings. Most stores measure as too big round the band and too small in the cup. Boob or bust have a useful online guide too.

Doggymummar · 01/10/2026 19:20

Bravissimo have a 30 day money back guarantee, do JL?

PickFlowersNotFights · 01/10/2026 19:22

Also recommend Boob Or Bust measurement at home and Bravissimo especially if you are large of nork.

Backedoffhackedoff · 01/10/2026 19:22

You’re supposed to be the one who makes sure they fit ok. JL don’t get out a tape measure they guess different sizes then you try them on for comfort. It’s not a tailoring service

Constantrunner · 01/10/2026 19:22

I wish I had lost weight! I didn't think the bra felt that comfy, but I have back ache, so put it down to that.

Bravissimo were great for my DD

Backedoffhackedoff · 01/10/2026 19:24

John Lewis training is to fit in sight. They haven’t provided or trained using tape measures for years

Pinkflamingo10 · 01/10/2026 19:26

There’s a good FB group called “boob or bust”
has details on how to measure yourself and honestly has helped me more than various in-store fittings.

Leopardspota · 01/10/2026 19:26

All bras fit differently. They bring you options and you decide which ones work for you. It’s not an exact science, it’s a suggestion and you decide if it works for you.

Constantrunner · 01/10/2026 19:29

What's the point in a bra fitting service if it's just based on how it feels to you as some suggest? I haven't a clue about stuff like this. This is why I wore old bras for far too long as I couldn't face trying to figure it out.

the poster above was right- all brands have different sizing and fit differently, you can’t just measure and be a size. They don’t do that anymore.

John Lewis are usually really good at explaining that.

Aiming4Optimistic · 01/10/2026 19:40

I think bras are meant to be on the loosest fastener when you first buy, then as they stretch you use the tighter fastenings. If you are still using the loosest fastening, it will have stretched out.

If it's riding up, that would be my diagnosis.

Are you between band sizes - eg. 35 inches and you've bought a 36 bra? I would try one band size down and one cup size up in the first instance.

But style can make a difference. I need a larger cup for a balcony bra than I do for a full cup bra - I assume to do with the shape (or lack thereof) of my boobs.

You do have to try them on to be sure of fit and comfort.

Whenever I've bought bras from JL I try one some I think will work, then ask an assistant to check the fit. They come in, adjust the straps, check the tightness around the back, look at the cups, and tell me if they think it's not fitting well. Then they will get me some which they think will fit better - sometime a different size in the same bra, sometimes a different style altogether, and then they check the fit of those too. While it's ultimately up to me to decide whether the bra feels comfortable, they do advise whether it's a good fit or not. If I've asked them to check the fit they've never just brought me bras and let me get on with it.

HopAroundLikeKangaroos · 01/10/2026 20:08

Have you washed them properly, ie hand washed in cold water and re shaped when wet?

I couldn’t work out why my bras were going naff quickly. Buying more expensive bras (I also found the JL own brand ones didn’t last very well, if that’s what you bought) alongside chucking them in the washing machine were the main culprits.

Now I have actually forked out on some pretty decent quality bras and hand wash them they last well.

Jopo12 · 01/10/2026 20:13

Back riding up is normally too small a cup size.
I would contact them

Its usually too big a back size. This may also go hand in hand with a cup size thats too small

Plmnki · 01/10/2026 21:09

OP, this isn’t brain surgery, you can work it out for yourself. You don’t rely on a shoe shop to tell you what size your feet are, do you?

there are only two variables, band size and cup size, come on, take a bit of control, it’s not like breasts are temporary, you might as well work this out now.

21ZIGGY · 01/10/2026 21:33

Measure your underbust and your bust

Underbust is the size of the band (32/34/36 etc)

Bust i.e. 38inches

Bust -underbust = cupsize

So 38 - 32 = 6 = ddd/f

mywillyflower · 01/10/2026 21:37

Oh I hate that. Is it making you grumpy ?
