Interview after starting new job?

I have just started a new job in the last 6 weeks working in a nursery. I have 4 young children (8 and under) and I am having to drop them to breakfast and afterschool club which is so expensive - most mornings.

A vacancy at my children’s school has just come up and I have applied and I have an interview tomorrow. If I get this job fuel costs will be halved and I won’t have to fork out for breakfast or afterschool clubs, however I am worried about calling in sick tomorrow to attend and a parent at the school finding out and telling the nursery (as there are some parents who are friendly with the nursery staff). I am a single parent so combined with nursery hills for my little boy - the breakfast club and afterschool is draining me!

I also feel bad as I have not long started the nursery job - but I feel this job is too good to pass by.

You’ve got to do what’s best for you.

Go for it. It's best for your family and that's where your priority and loyalty should be.

Nothing wrong with going for the interview, a lot wrong with ringing in sick and if they find out (which I bet they will as teachers talk) you'll probably be fired.

I agree with the previous posters who’ve said that going to the interview is fine, lying about being sick is not.

Can you tell your work that you need to be off for an urgent meeting at your children’s school? Given that’s where you’re interviewing, it’s true.

I agree, an urgent meeting or just ‘an appointment’ will work. That way you could go into work afterwards.
