Who should pay for flights?

AIBU76 · Today 19:43

Person A and person B are going on holiday and paid separately for their flights. Person B had a bereavement so Person A cancelled the hotel believing that Person B wouldnt want to go anymore. Person A did not speak to Person B about this at all before cancelling. Person B hadnt said anything about not wanting to go and cancellation was done only a few days after bereavement. Person B can't get a refund for flights as travel insurance small print doesnt cover a relative dying from a pre existing condition and both flight companies only refund if the death was within 10 days of flight. Who should pay for Person B's flights?

Can’t person A just rebook a hotel so you can both still go?

rjfiih · Today 20:56

Person A shouldn't have cancelled without talking to person B first.
Person B could rebook accommodation and still go alone.
Person B could talk to person A about rebooking the accommodation as they still want to go.
If Person B doesn't want to go alone and A now doesn't want to go at all B will have to suck up the costs of the flights.

Just write the blooming details!!! It’s like getting blood out of a stone.

Does A not want to go any more as she doesn’t like B?

AMarkAMissionABrandAScar · Today 21:00

A goes on Booking.com and finds a hotel, both get on the plane as originally planned. I know; I'm a genius.

cartagenagina · Today 21:02

So what you’re actually saying is that person A doesn’t want to go on holiday with person B any more.

That is tough tbh. Person B should just go on their own. If they choose not to, they can’t expect person A to reimburse them.

There are women of 18 travelling the world solo, what sort of holiday is it that B can’t manage alone?

FookFookFook · Today 21:07

Does person A still have a valid flight booked? If so they should just book another hotel?

She's just had a bereavement so doesnt want to go alone.

B can’t force A to go on holiday.

B decides if they want to go on holiday - if yes, they book a hotel, if no, they accept they lost their money on the flight because they didn’t want to go.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · Today 21:13

But why doesn't person A want to go anymore, is it because they've had a fall out over the cancellation?

Can person B find someone else to go with?

So why doesn’t A want to go any more? This is all very confusing…

titchy · Today 21:13

We need to know why person A has decided to no longer go on holiday given that person B, despite being bereaved, still wants to. Are you going to share that or continue to evade the question?

I am assuming because person B have just had a bereavement and doesn't want to go alone which implies that they need person A to be their emotional support. Person A does not want to do that while on holiday so they bowed out.

Person A is also affected by the bereavement but much less so.

Don’t understand this at all - does person A not want to go even thought they’ve cancelled the hotel only because of person B’s bereavement? Surely if person B says don’t be silly of course I’ll still go, person A would be on board and can book alternative accommodation?

rjfiih · Today 21:26

AIBU76 · Today 21:07

She's just had a bereavement so doesnt want to go alone.

She'll have to lose the money then won't she.

And now you say person A has also been affected by the bereavement though "less so". So that's why A doesn't want to go and that's her choice. And no she shouldn't have to reimburse B.

What does she want?

tilypu · Today 21:34

Person B pays for their own flights, because they could go on their own, they don't want to.

Why haven't they discussed with A about them both going? I know there's speculation on the thread, but no answer.

So person A also doesn’t want to go on the holiday due to the bereavement? They should have spoken to person B first.

Well that's quite a drip feed

purpleme12 · Today 21:40

The thread says that person A is affected by the bereavement but it doesn't actually say that that's the reason that person A cancelled the holiday

FookFookFook · Today 21:40

you need to be more specific if you genuinely want a fair answer OP

Yes it is quite vague

Londonrach1 · Today 21:44

Book another accommodation as you said b wants to go. Why didn't a talk to b.

Yes

And in fact it seems like no one is communicating effectively with each other still, if this thread is anything to go by

sonjadog · Today 21:47

Person B pays for their own flights. They are choosing not to go on their own. Person A should have communicated better, but they don't have to go on holiday if they don't want to.
