AIBU to let DC miss PE after the 11 plus?

We live in a grammar area and DC1 has the 11+ exam next week. The exam is in school time, but at a venue external to the primary school. It finishes around midday, though due to additional needs DC gets extra time so will finish later. By the time we would get back to school lunch would have finished so we have to go home and eat lunch and would then go back to school. I estimate we would get to school for 1.30 at the earliest, realistically later.

DC has worked very hard throughout summer to prepare for the exam. I propose that we go out for a nice lunch and don't go back to school. It's p.e and DC does lots of sport outside of school.

AIBU?

I would!

Of course you're not! This is a bit sad that in the UK you even have to stop and consider this.

Your dv will be too exhaused to go back to school that day

TaptheCap · 11/09/2026 16:53

Oh good. Some of the others are talking about going back to school after but I'm thinking he'll be exhausted and it just won't be worth it.

I can’t believe you even asked. Of course you don’t have to take him back.

Well school are saying we do!

Even though they'll already have missed afternoon registration.

Honestly there's no point going in especially if she won't be back until after the afternoon register so definitely do something nice instead.

I wouldn't take dc back and take somewhere nice/treat after exam as reward for working hard in preparation.... To signal moving on as now out of hands they've done their bit..
Unless they completely balls up test and feel awful then just whatever ever is their comfort thing!
One dc just crashes on sofa with old tv programnes in oodie after anything stressful.. others want to do something physical other the only answer is pizza & milkshake...

Hollowvoice · 11/09/2026 20:06

I wouldn't take them back.

MoonAndStarsAndAllThat · 11/09/2026 20:11

I would not even consider taking them back
