Cheese and onion crisps dont taste like cheese and onion anymore, just fake cheesy

Years ago, cheese and onion crisps used to taste of cheese and onion. What it said on the packet

Now, they just have a really strong fake cheese taste, horrible. Particularly the 'posh' brands.

Its an important matter that I dont think is being addressed

Is there a Cheese and Onion crisp society or something? Do we need to set one up?

You’re speaking the truth. I would join the cheese and onion Soc.

Agreed they are good
Unfortunley i dont think you can reliably get them in Britain i have seen them like the afor mentioned Golden wonder in Home bargains but not regularaly sadly .

x2boys · 10/09/2026 23:26

Also i was pleasentley surprised by Greggs own crisps
The cheese and onion flaviour taste like chesse and onion. Of old imo

MrsShawnHatosy · 11/09/2026 00:10

Tyrrells are good.

minerva7 · 11/09/2026 01:08

Golden wonder are in Tesco. Their cheese and onion is the best.

xxlostxx · 11/09/2026 01:23

The problem is they are adding sugar to our crisps. Totally messed up the taste. I was a big fan of flavours now I tend to go for just salted as don't want the shitty fake artificial flavouring the sugar brings😡

Didn't know Gregg's did crisps, will look out for them!
I agree with other posters, Golden Wonder still remain best of bad bunch! Love cheese & onion but their smokey bacon is the best 👌

my local coop (scotmid) in edinburgh stock them

SneakyGremlin · 11/09/2026 03:31

I get my tayto imported off eBay.

I still think cheese and onion McCoy's are good

Slowlivingrocks · 11/09/2026 05:43

Taytos cheese and onion, amongst other Irish goods are available in Sainsbury's. Taytos sandwich with cheddar cheese and thinly sliced onion with real butter is sublime. Pair with Nash's red lemonade 😃

KindlySurfiingPlatypus · 11/09/2026 06:17

Cheap cheese and onion crisps have never actually tasted of cheese and onion but have always had a nasty chemical taste. If your perception has changed it's probably to do with the maturing of your palate as tastes change at different times of life and also if you get used to nicer foods the ordinary foods you used to eat seem less nice.

Expensive gourmet crisps taste genuinely cheesy.

Well no, they're another on the shit list, it tends to be the premium 'posh' brands that taste overly mechanically cheesy. OH always buys posh stuff rather than just bog standard ones, which are much better.

No completely the other way round. And we're talking cheese and ONION not cheesy. If I want overly cheesy flavours I can buy disgusting Wotsits and leave orange smears on my clothes

Dont be onionist.

Yes they do their own

bababamama · 11/09/2026 07:46

I prefer the posh ones too - sorry think it’s your personal taste buds. Burts are good

user1492757084 · 11/09/2026 07:47

Have you changed medication recently?

On Chemotherapy?
Could your taste have been affected.?

The Co-op Irresistible West Country Cheddar & Spring Onion Crisps are brilliant - and if you want proper remove all moisture from your mouth and fry your teeth Salt and Vinegar crisps, the same range sea salt and chardonnay wine vinegar will do it.
