Change of secondary schools?

Looking for a bit of advice. DD did two years in secondary school of her choice, did well but hated the school, struggled with friendships, felt isolated and came home crying most days. Eventually agreed to move schools so now she’s started year 9 in a new school. Second week in and she’s asking to go back to old school. I said it’s too soon for her to know if she likes the new school so she needs to give it time. DH says she asked to move so now needs to stay where she is. I don’t know if I should allow her to go back at the end of this term if the old school I’ll take her back. Has anyone ever had a dc leave a school and then go back after just one term? Is that even allowed? Am being too soft? TIA.

Would there be a place at the former school?

Have the reasons she wanted to move changed? You mention friendships, so would that still be an issue?

A week at the new school is hardly time to settle and get used to it or make new friends. I think she needs to give it more time.

Why would you send her back to a school when she came home crying every day? Why would she want to go back?

I moved my DD in similar circumstances and it took half a term for her to properly settle. She also asked to go back (to where she was badly bullied) but I just said no tbh.

You have my sympathy, it's so hard when they are unhappy evey day.

I agree she needs more time. DH doesn’t think she should even be given a choice. It’s almost like she’s forgotten how unhappy she was and the old school has suddenly become amazing. I’m doubting the decision to move her in the first place and wondering if I should have pushed for a change of form instead. I don’t know if her old school would even take her back.
