Anyone else in their 40's still listening to filthy underground dance music?

I’m in my 40s and still absolutely love underground dance music 💃💃 💃 💃
Not really the commercial stuff, I mean proper underground dance. I’m primarily into trance and drum and bass, but I also love house and hard house. Dark, filthy, repetitive, slightly antisocial music that sounds best far too loud. 😂
I was wondering how many other people in their 40s and beyond still listen to it regularly?
And if you do, what is it that’s kept you into it?
For me, I’ve never really thought of dance music as something you’re supposed to grow out of. I still love the energy of it and the way it makes me feel, even if these days I’m more likely to be listening to it while driving to Tesco than standing in a warehouse at 4am.
I genuinely can’t imagine suddenly deciding I’m too old for it and moving on to Radio 2 and an acoustic guitar (not that there's anything wrong with radio 2, or acoustic guitars, it just isn't me 🙏)
Do you still go out to clubs or raves, or has it mostly become kitchen/car/headphones territory now?
Please tell me there’s a sizeable contingent of middle-aged ravers lurking on Mumsnet. 😂

Absolutely!!!!! Sometimes I laugh at the thought of us all being 80+ and sat in our chairs listening to heavy dance!

I'm 50 next year and my absolute bliss is late 80's/early 90s piano house.

I'm an old raver. Very occasionally go to some of them day rave things.

But I still love the music.

The funny thing is I wasn't ever really a raver, I just genuinely enjoy listening to it.

Yes! I have for many years joked about what nursing homes will be like for GenXers/ex ravers... They will give out whistles and horns and put the strobe lights on

They still have raves round our way. I am always baffled by how it's mostly old men. How come the women don't go so much?? Why is everyone there so old?? It can't be real 😂 I feel so young still. I was out last night and people thought I was 30 😂

I have also been to the Pete Tong classical orchestra type events and all the men have grey hair or are bald. It just seems very incongruous

Yes I do ! I’m in my mid 30s. When I turn 30 my husband said - that’s it, you’re 30 now, you have to listen to Magic radio only ! 🥲😂

I'm 50 and will NEVER grow out of dance music. Have always loved hard house and thesy days, still listen to that and happy hardcore (I know!) but 90s piano house too as that's what's been played at the raves we've been to recently.

I've started day raves over the past couple of years (proper ones, not cheesy 80s/90s ones) and love it! We're off to Fat Tony's brunch next month and I cannot wait! 😁

Why would you be unreasonable to listen to music that you enjoy from your teens & twenties?

Loved dark warehouses. Always loved it from the very first time I head electronic music on. Newsround lol have loved introducing my two boys to it.

You do you, but I absolutely hate dance music. It makes me feel like I'm going mad. The repetitiveness of it actually makes me feel really stressed and angry. I can't explain it.

Yes, but mostly for playing at the gym - very middle aged! Do sometimes go clubbing as well.

I went to the occasional filthy squat party/free party back in the day.

@NewSchoolOldRules - saw Klangphonics live last year and they were amazing.

Love trance, always have never stopped listening especially live uplifting trance and hesd out to trance festivals around the world but also super lucky London has so many trance events too 😃

I dropped my son out the other night and the radio was playing proper dance music and I felt like someone had opened a window and released my soul!! I have turned off dance music from time to time with the kids in the car though, it felt a bit weird!!

Yes. I am guilty. Born in 1976.
Still got the vinyls and my Technics Mk2s. I am stuck in the early 1990s really, though there is some good contemporary stuff to be found.
Mary Anne Hobbs on Six music is a good source of new tunes.

Favourite tune from the top of my head..."Sub Dub by dj Seduction". Must be from 1991?
I don't go out on the town and never did because I was an athlete (v. early mornings).
