AIBU to feel emotional about my boys starting school and nursery?

I feel so unreasonable but I’m really emotional about my boys starting school and nursery school. DS1 started reception last week and DS2 is in nursery school, he was previously in a normal day nursery but this one is much more aimed at getting them ready for school and they have a uniform etc. I’ve just been washing their uniforms and ended up crying!. I don’t know why it’s hit me so much, I work in a school, I know that at DS1’s age it’s basically just learning through play, and they’ve both been in nursery since they were 1 so it isn’t like this is my first time away from them in the week but I just feel like I’ve left the baby years now and I’m entering into the proper little kid years which just feels so sad!. Did anyone else feel like this? And how did you get a grip?

💐
Just have to ride it out i'm afraid. It'll be ok after a couple of weeks.

Baby days are over - but look at it this way ... you wouldn't want them stuck as babies forever. Have a cry, chin up, carry on 😊

Not unreasonable to feel how you feel. That's parenting isn't it, bringing them up so you can gradually let them go? So bittersweet.

Not unreasonable at all. My middle one is starting secondary tomorrow and I'm a wreck. I just don't know where the years have gone!

You just have to get used to it.

Our youngest has just finished year 13. It’s just as traumatic at the end of their school career as the start, I’m afraid!

Wait until they head off to university 🙄

I’m with you totally OP - we’ve only got the one and she’s just started school nursery and I’ve been in absolute bits, I miss her SO much. Like you, she has been in another setting since turning 1 (but she was only part time) and I just cannot wrap my head around how we’re here already. She’s over the moon which is wonderful and I couldn’t want anything more, but it’s SO hard. Hope it eases up for you soon x
