AIBU to be woken up at the weekend?

COUNCAT14 · 06/09/2026 17:57

Been pondering over this for a while.

Weekend away with friends. What is a reasonable time to be woken up on a Saturday/Sunday morning?

Depends on what plans you have for the day.

ElefantAndCastle · 06/09/2026 18:03

Depends on your plans.

whistlesandbells · 06/09/2026 18:05

Depends on the plans for the day, the agreements made and how much fun was had the night before. When I go away with friends, despite being an early riser with kids, I appreciate a relaxed start.

Nightnova · 06/09/2026 18:07

Well it's hard to say really without knowing what the plans for the day are.

TulipsMakeMeHappy · 06/09/2026 18:08

Honestly, that's something you kind of decide the night before! And, as pp, what the plans are. 8am is the absolute earliest I would wake someone else, and only if there was something we wanted/needed to get to. But I prefer a lazy start on a weekend so I'd always make it clear before booking a weekend with friends to make sure we had similar expectations. Note, if you mean woken up by someone in the kitchen making themselves a cup of tea then all bets are off really.

Sparkletastic · 06/09/2026 18:10

Depends on your age but in my 50-something circles 9am would be the latest.

Musicaltheatremum · 06/09/2026 18:21

I'm 63. Wake with my alarm at 7ish every day although frequently awake before hand. I'd not expect contact from others until after 8 although do text my kids early occasionally.

BIWI · 06/09/2026 18:22

What's your AIBU?

Didimum · 06/09/2026 18:23

No plans: 10am. Plans: 9am. Earlier if plans are before noon.

Shinyandnew1 · 06/09/2026 18:25

Much more information needed!

Are you camping?
Are there young kids/pets?
What plans do you have?
Who is sleeping where, eg is there a couple in the lounge?!
What did you say at bedtime last night-sleep well, see you for x bright and early?!

Surely at some point communication has happened?!

The dogs/kids will probably be up at 6!
The venue opens at 10, so we need to had left by 9. Breakfast at 7.30?
I can’t wait for my lie in-we have no plans tomorrow!

Or do you not speak to each other?

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 06/09/2026 18:25

I’m not certain what you are asking.
your question says “Am I being unreasonable to be woken up at the weekend?”
But I don’t think that can be what you mean. How could YOU be unreasonable if someone else work you up?
Do you mean “Is it unreasonable for someone to wake me up at the weekend?” or do you mean “Would it be unreasonable for me to wake someone else up at the weekend?”

JLou08 · 06/09/2026 18:30

I wouldn't wake another adult, they wake when they're ready. I also wouldn't lie in bed in silence to avoid waking anyone, I wouldn't make any loud noise but I'd get up and have a drink. The time I'd start showering would depend on the time we went to sleep. Up till 2am I'd probably hold out until 9.30. In bed by 11pm I'd be doing normal activities by 8am.

TheBers · 06/09/2026 18:37

If it’s not light outside it’s too early.
If it’s lunchtime it’s too late.

I’m a morning person and get pissed off at people still asleep at 9am.
My friend is an owl. She gets pissed off if I disturb making coffee at 8am.

As everyone else has said …it depends.

AhBiscuits · 06/09/2026 18:39

We're going to need a lot more info.

Contain4 · 06/09/2026 18:46

What do you mean by being woken up?

As in they come into your room and shake you awake - so intentionally wake you up?

Or if they are just making normal noise and so unintentionally waking you up?

And what were the plans for the day?
And was there a rough time of when you should leave?

WildFatball · 06/09/2026 18:53

Who is waking who up, and why? Unless there was a very good reason I would not expect someone to wake me up on a weekend away with friends. If there is a very good reason to be up at a certain time eg planned outing with a set, agreed time, then everyone can use the alarm on their phones. There is no need to wake anyone up.

COUNCAT14 · 06/09/2026 18:54

Thanks you have verified what I thought about after 8am being more appropriate.

Why aren't you telling the full story 🤣

Why aren't you telling the full story 🤣

Because I didn’t come to tell a story, I come to ask a question that has been on my mind for a few weeks and has been answered.

What do you mean by 'woken up'? Someone deliberately waking you at a time of their choosing or just house noise waking you up.

sweetpickle2 · 06/09/2026 19:09

I wouldn’t wake anyone up, they’re not a child and I’m not their mum.

But in terms of what time to decide to get up, it would depend entirely on plans- and also how many bathrooms there are in the accommodation.

LizandDerekGoals · 06/09/2026 19:10

It depends on the weekends plans. If you are going our for the day on activities and it has timings, then any time can reasonable.

gamerchick · 06/09/2026 19:17

Depends on whether I'm sharing a bathroom or not. 7am at the latest usually. I love early mornings when I'm away.

This are they doing a Reveille or just getting up?

Cherrysoup · 06/09/2026 19:55

I’d be very annoyed if my DH woke me up before I was ready. I used to like to stay in bed til 9am, so huge lie in, imo, but recently, I rarely make it past 6, usually lots earlier.

If someone is deliberately waking you up for no good reason ie you don’t have dc or it’s your day for a lie in, I’d be furious.
