I live in Brighton and today we've had easily 200 guys ( yes its nearly all guys) on their penis extensions , sorry, motorbikes roaring up and down the seafront and setting off smoke bombs. Some of them have clearly modified their bikes to make them as loud as possible others are just revving as hard as they can. The noise is intolerable, the smell is awful and God knows what the pollution levels are. I hate it and I feel really sorry for the people who have paid for a weekend here and found this. The bike invasion is an annual event but we get this on the seafront all the time, sometimes individual idiots and sometimes small groups. Apparently the police have powers to fine people and confiscate vehicles for antisocial driving but they dont seem to be interested in noise pollution. A few years ago local authorities were asked to bid to be pilot areas for noise recording cameras like speed cameras. I dont know if Brighton didn't bid or if they didn't get it but they would have made a fortune by now in fines. What's wrong with these people? Presumably they are enjoying themselves, but what about everyone else?

YANBU. And they should take away their motorbikw licence. If they can’t be trusted to follow the rules they shouldn’t have a bike.

Pickledonion1999 · 06/09/2026 16:36

Agree. It's dreadful where we live too. Even trying to have a peaceful summer walk in the evening is ruined and our dog petrified. I bloody hate motorcyclists. Selfish idiots just ruining things for others.

TheProvincialLady · 06/09/2026 16:36

Never mind the police, it should be legal to throw grenades at them.

I remember the 60s and mods and rockers fighting on a bank holiday. In the days when Brighton police wore white helmets. Why is it always Brighton, though?

misseckleburg · 06/09/2026 16:38

I agree entirely.
I always presume that these absolutely tragic men must be compensating for something. The most unattractive, selfish and pathetic hobbie.

DierdreDaphne · 06/09/2026 16:40

It's not just Brighton. We were out for the day in the hills of South Wales and you could hear the numerous knobbers even from the hilltops.

DierdreDaphne · 06/09/2026 16:44

It's a bit like potholes, isn't it - a kind of low-level failure to keep things sorted that degrades everyone's experience of day to day life. And I daresay adds to the 'Britain is Broken lets call a national emergency' in some quarters. Though hopefully most can see it's just under-funding of councils, police etc...

Yanbu. This is probably my biggest frustration police wise - they don't address this increasing problem. When I asked them about it I was told 'not all police are able to deal with road issues' 🙄 but they don't seem to bother at all. Locals are always complaining yet nothing happens.

In my area there are meet ups of souped up cars gathering at supermarket car parks. They then race around the roads with their exhausts backfiring. Police do nothing despite knowing that this happens every friday evening.

Apologies for typos in title, wrote this in anger and cant work out how to edit it!

Absolutely yes, divert police time to this when response teams are strapped, traffic units are being disbanded and forces cannot recruit due to the amount of shit officers get from the public for performing normal duties.

bababamama · 06/09/2026 18:24

They would if they caught them, you get points and a fine if you are caught. (Ours is fully mot compliant btw, no dodgy stuff!)

NeverDropYourMooncup · 06/09/2026 18:25

It's always been a thing for knobs to equate more noise with more power/speed.

And it's always been a thing that if the police hear a bike that's louder, they'll pull them over and go over it with a fine tooth comb. Usually, that means as soon as a car is spotted in the distance, the rider or driver lays off the throttle a bit in the hope that they don't realise.

ETA: barring any serious incidents diverting attention, most of those riders will be attracting the attention of police somewhere between Haywards Heath and the Crawley/Redhill/Reigate area on their way back.

CheerfulBunny · 06/09/2026 18:39

I find it baffling, generally, when I try to live my life not annoying or upsetting anyone that some people seem to go out of their way to be deliberately irritating to other people. It's an attitude of not giving a shit, as long as they're happy and doing what they want. We had a ghastly little twat speeding past our house in a crappy old Golf with basically no exhaust for weeks and weeks, multiple times a day (no tax or MOT and clearly didn't hold down a job..) which was indescribably loud and irritating. Eventually he succeeded in blowing the f*cking car up or the police finally caught up with him because thankfully it's stopped.

MeetMeOnTheCorner · 06/09/2026 19:31

@Hare5260 Getting rid of these riders IS normal duties but they cannot be bothered. Overtime pay is generous but crimes that affect day to day life just build up. Here it’s doing doughnuts on the wider roads or undertaking the wrong side around a roundabout. I did see 4 police cars arrive at a motorway services 2 weeks ago and 8 officers went in for coffee and a chat. A little boy got to sit in one of the cars so he had a great time.

I don't suppose anyone would argue that there are more serious crimes for police to attend to. But OMG this is annoying and I can't think of any reason for it to happen other than the bikers actually want to be this antisocial. They don't have to make this much noise, they are deliberately adapted to do so.

I hate this. Every house in a tow mile radius can hear them but the police can’t find them. It was horrible over the long hot summer when we wanted windows open at night
