To feel proud for getting housework done

This is maybe a stupid post amd I'm sure il get "bare minimum" comments but after a really stressful few weeks I'm actually proud of myself.
I have been struggling to keep on top of things between working full time, illness and the back to school stuff add in some marriage problems the house had become a disaster.
My DH has hurt his back so unable to do the stuff he usually does and my DD who is 6 was very sick last 10 days with a bacterial infection (shes much better now) so I was getting very little sleep as she was awake with fever and even when she was sleeping i was awake worrying. Then the washing machine packed up so laundry was out of control and house was so messy (dirty if I'm honest) it was depressing. Yesterday i did a food shop and took all my washing to some public washing machines and got them all washed and dried and this morning I set my alarm for 6.30am and I got the whole house cleaned properly, fresh bed clothes on all beds all furniture moved so floors could be hoovered and mopped and now at 2pm there's a roast in the oven and I'm able to sit down with DD and DH to watch a movie and play pictionary.
I've felt like I'm drowning the last month so having a clean house and fresh food in the fridge going into the coming week feels like such a win.

Always celebrate your wins.

Sounds amazing op. I’m sure your Mh too improved. A good deep cleaned house with good food is always a win for me. Well done!

FusionChefGeoff · 06/09/2026 14:35

That sounds amazing!!! Well done for tackling all of that, the discipline to get up early and enjoy your well earned Sunday afternoon

Bravo🥳

Well done! I bet it feels great. I’m having a drowning month too, I haven’t coped well with the last month of the summer holidays plus an escalating workload at work. I’ve got two loads of washing on the line today and am doing some work this afternoon, I’ve got to push through this week and then I’m going to have calmer fortnight after that and getting on top of the house will be my number 1 priority.

Well done :)
I've had that feeling too, it's so nice to feel on top of things after a period of struggle. Enjoy the rest of the day in your lovely clean home.

Well done! I try to find at least one day a week where I do all the cleaning in the morning then relax all afternoon. Dh can’t help me much as he’s just become disabled so I’m doing all cleaning myself. Sunday is usually my day if I’m not on shift. Today I tidied and cleaned whole house, made a nice lasagne for dinner, made an apple crumble for dessert then took kids swimming. I’m now relaxing at home and might play my game ☺️ It’s difficult when there’s illness in the house and not everyone can help. Just do what you can and consider that a win. I’ll make kids lunches for school tomorrow shortly and get uniforms and bags put out for Dh in morning to see them off to school.

It'd so hard because the more overwhelming it becomes the more difficult it can be to tackle it but you got 2 loads of laundry done thats a big win.

I feel like I was just barely surviving, one day last week I had a full sleeve of jaffa cakes and 6 coffees for the days nutrition and tripping over piles of dirty laundry while trying to work full time and take care of a child who was home sick from school. I had a constant headache and felt like crap.
So glad to feel a bit more on top of things this week

Well done. 🌺 You did good.

PetulaGordeno · 06/09/2026 14:49

When you are in the thick of it and don’t actually like mess it’s a horrible feeling.
But you have done a brilliant job there I calm these little wins. It’s not a promotion at work, or something major, but little wins every day are the ones that really add up.

Enjoy your very well deserved rest OP!
Well done for getting everything ship shape - your future self will be so grateful, sending well wishes to your little one too x
