to think these fitters are taking the piss?

Had some floor fitters in who finished the job on Monday - laying untreated wood flooring. They left slight glue marks on the floor, and a few small pencil marks. They say because the flooring provided is 'unfinished', it's up to me to rub out the pencil / sand down the glue marks with a small orbital sander.

Yabu - you bought an unfinished product and as you're going to oil it anyway, it's up to you to prep it as such.

Yanbu - the unfinished product refers to the fact that the blocks aren't oiled. The finish should mean there arent any marks

Toy paid them to lay the floor and they have...you didn't pay them to prep it for treatment.

You paid them to fit the floor which they have. You haven't paid them to prep it, that's not their job.

Thanks for the replies and votes. I was under the impression that if you wouldn't leave glue marks whilst using treated wood, then you wouldn't leave glue marks whilst using untreated wood - but I see I'm probably wrong due to the votes. I'm actually relieved that I was being a bit unreasonable about this, as it makes me feel less bad about the job they did overall.

It's been a horrid mess. When they left, they didn't tidy up... They left: 3 bin bags of rubbish, multiple cans of monster, choc wrappers, general litter lying amongst layers of saw dust, multiple tubs of half used glue, four opened packs of wood where they'd just used a few out of the top (one of these had glue poured over it), a pile of mdf offcuts, a couple of tools coated in glue and a mammoth, and I mean mammoth amount of offcuts. There were also a few bits that hadn't been glued down and one piece had a large chunk missing (10cm by 2cm).... but I can't be too annoyed as they're coming back to fix that...

They sound bad and lazy the offcuts are a waste. Doesn’t sound like they knew what they were doing.
