What are your 9 year olds doing today (Saturday)

I have two boys age 9 and other than tutoring this morning they are sat on the sofa watching YouTube. One has done some Lego. If I leave them they will stay on devices until bedtime. It’s such a nice day and I feel that they should be doing something. The only club they do is a weeknight they are not interested in anything else. I do usually take them out on bikes/scooters but have some work I need to do at home. Just interested to see what other 9 year olds are doing today

It's an in day here too so on and off screens but not constant.

She's just turned 10yo but woke about 6 and watched TV until breakfast at 8.30. Got up and dressed. Played with the cats a bit. Then played Lego in her room probably 10-12? (Periodically claiming to be hungry but not for fruit or veg or cereal, only for crisps 🤣) Went to the shop briefly. Lunch and a cheese related meltdown at about 1. Then on her tablet for a bit playing Pokémon and now her and her older brother are doing Minecraft together.

3 hrs of formal tuition so far. Now on the ipad trying to decide where we go out for dinner. Watched one hr of TV before lessons started. Will play with lego/switch, go for dinner at about half 6, read for a while then bed.

We're going to a family music festival so that. Currently practicing a routine for dance class in front of the mirror while we wait for 12yo to be ready to leave. Earlier on was playing Minecraft with cousins.

My 8 year old spent the morning baking a cake with me. Now she's watching cbeebies with her little brother and pointing out the plot holes in his episode of Peter rabbit. She's going over to a friend's house in a bit. Saturdays can be pretty lazy for us as they are the only day neither of the kids have a hobby. So usually it's either a day out, or hanging about at home. She doesn't have a tablet but has been known to sit watching films all day, I'm not worried, she's busy the rest of the time so an occasional day of rotting on the sofa won't kill her.

School, from 9 - 3.15pm. Consisting of assembly, hymn practice, yoga, farming hobby and then hockey training this afternoon.

I’ve cleaned the house in the meantime!

Currently trialling no screens for our children, so she's done some crocheting, went on a scooter ride and did some blackberry picking. Now at a children's party, then going to bake a crumble before dinner and bed. So far no screens has made them a lot more creative, present and enjoyable to be around.

School on a Saturday? Is that just hobbies or do they do academic stuff as well?

No screen time so far today here either as they lost it because of behaviour last night. So instead they've both gone to younger daughters gymnastics class (older one watched), then one has built a snail house in the garden (and spent quite some time chatting to them), the other has been chatting on and off with me, elder girl has written a birthday card for her friend for tomorrow and now they are playing with sylvanians, a craft kit and other similar toys. It's been lovely having no Tv on. Later we'll watch a family Film together so it's not all no-screens but just a quiet day in.

Picking mine up from dancing shortly - she’s been there since 9:30, mixture of classes and carrying on with her friends in between. When she gets home likely chilled rest of day - some tv, some bead craft (current obsession). We try to play a board game as a family after dinner on Saturdays when we can

gone to a big playground where met cousins- brought a picnic basket for lunch (with our cakes in)
went for pizza afterwards
Bath time then cuddled up for a movie night in the evening- moana 🌊

Ours have been to church. They are singing in the choir.
Doing music practise and math homework after lunch. Took them an hour. Done an hour of reading.
Netflix/YouTube for the rest of the day I suppose.

Late to this, but yesterday mine didn't get dressed until lunch, watched a film in the morning. Afternoon he 'helped' with some baking (about 15 mins) and eventually agreed to a walk round the very close park, where we bumped into friends and couldn't get him to leave 😂

My 9 yr old DS has had some time gaming, a couple of hours out with his friends around the village and did some lego with a friend and then more gaming

My 8 year old is sick today so has been watching tv or playing computer games all day, following an appointment this morning.

On a typical non sick day, they are usually burned out from school week as they are autistic so I don’t book in any clubs on the weekends.

A typical Saturday would probably be watching tv and eating breakfast in the morning. We would try to get them out the house to move at least once in the day (if the weather isn’t horrendous). Ranges from climbing wall, swimming, play date, playground or out on rollerskates. Sometimes just getting them to do anything is a feat so a trip to the cinema or shops will do.

Usually do some sort of drawing:crafts and finish day with a film and dinner.

Generally let my 8 year old watch films and decompress as long as we get out at least once and as long as they have a bit of non screen time.

My mantra is do something physical, something creative and then do what you want.

When I started school abroad we went to school Saturdays and Sundays and had Thursdays and Fridays off. Maybe the pp lives somewhere similar.

My 9 & 8 year old spent most of today playing out with friends. DH and I were decorating all day so it was good for them to get out of my hair!
DS spent a good couple of hours in his iPad before he went out about 10.30. DD has been playing Lego and on bikes all day - with friends. She is just watching a bit of TV now before bed

On Saturday we had a swimming lesson, cinema trip, climbing trees in the park, cycling locally, ice cream parlour. We tend to avoid screen time by being out of the house a lot, we are usually out and about on Saturdays.

Today we had a full on day at a theme park, we don't often go but dc usually does a club on Sundays and it hasn't started yet for the term so we had the whole day free.

Yesterday mine had a football match mid morning. He spent the afternoon on his iPad and playing with his sister (some Roblox and some non screen related playing). We watched soccer Saturday on telly too.

Yesterday for ds8 was screen time, then homework then judo then lunch. In the afternoon he finished making a rather tricky Lego technical car. Then he helped mow the lawn. Then we watched a movie then screen time, bath, reading and bed.

Today was screen time then a swim at 8.45 so we were out until 10.30am. Then Minecraft. 15 mins of reading. After lunch played with his drone in the park) and helped me clear out some old toys (which meant he played with some of the things we re-discovered). Then practised piano, had roast chicken dinner and then screen time and bed.

Usually we would do a big cycle (25km+) on a Sunday but we are all getting over a cold so decided to be less active than normal.

Ds - 7, yesterday he did some chores in the morning, and then had a fair amount of screen time, then we went to town, spent some time in the library, shoe shopping, then home for a movie. Today, we went to church, had a snacky lunch outside, went to a story telling activity, then he's played some games on the t computer with Dh, then helped make some school lunchbox snacks, then a movie.

My 10-yr old did an hour of footy training and two hours of tennis club (very low-key).

It was his sibling's birthday, so after lunch we had some family around then went for a walk. Later after tea he went to the rec nearby to meet a friend to play football. Also did some Zelda on the Switch and probably watched some rubbish football clip compilations on YouTube! That's a pretty standard Saturday.

Uk private school, hobbies and sports year 3 to year 8 then academic from 9 onwards, with sports in the afternoon.
