Low fibre vegetarian diet 7 days before colonoscopy/gastroscopy?

HeathisWealth · 05/09/2026 09:19

White carbs, eggs, cheese, butter, processed cereals, milk, well cooked carrots and strained tomatoes (but staining?).

This is my idea of food hell.

White bread egg/cheese sarnies?

Pasta with butter and cheese?

Usual diet is rich in fruit, berries, seeds and nuts with my yoghurt, veggies (skin on!), beans, pulses, salads, seeds and nuts- and wholemeal, brown and whole grain.

Please can I ask for your help with better ideas as honestly, if I didn't need one before, I'll definitely need one with that diet!

Its for 7 days. Surely you can cope with that?

Songlines · 05/09/2026 09:22

It's only for a very short time before a necessary important medical procedure. Deal with it

Octavia64 · 05/09/2026 09:23

Wait until you get the prep they make you take your clean you out.

fucking brutal

Lomonald · 05/09/2026 09:24

It isn't for too long and high fibre bulks up inside so is difficult to shift when you are on the last part of your prep. You can't eat anything fiberous I don't think anybody can give you any tips.

MurphysColeslaw · 05/09/2026 09:27

You can make lovely omelettes with Greek salad?
vegetarian lasagne, all kinds of things it’s not that difficult or horrific.

I don't think you can use many vegetables really what would be in the lasagne?

MurphysColeslaw · 05/09/2026 09:30

Courgettes are low in fibre, even mushrooms if they’re canned.

HeathisWealth · 05/09/2026 09:31

Some of you kinder than others- thanks kind people.

Those who were not so kind, I'm obviously already stressed and anxious and going through a tough time. I was simply asking for ideas for meals to eat that are low-fibre and nutritious - and a little more than white bread, pasta, eggs and cheese. Shame on you for being so cutting.

If you don't adhere to the diet you may find that it'll all have been pointless as they won't be able to get a clear result for the colonoscopy.

Then to proceed you'd need to take more laxatives and another diet for a couple of weeks before another attempt

What would you prefer?

Won't be able to have salad, olives or vegetables so Greek salad is a definite no.

Vegetarian soya mince is still high in fibre so doubt she can have that.

The lasagne would just be sheets of pasta with white sauce & cheese?!

No way round it's just a very bland & plain diet for a few days.

Just simply asking for ideas to make the following week a little better, that's all 😬

Sounds lovely but most of the ingredients are off the menu. Thank you, though. ☺️

Why can’t she have low fibre veg and a bit of salad leaf ?
I think tofu is fairly low fibre ?

MurphysColeslaw · 05/09/2026 09:35

Have you got a list of absolute no go foods ?

Portmore · 05/09/2026 09:35

That's not the worst diet for a few days.

Some people are on 'clear fluids only' for weeks on end, NG or even TPN & manage to cope with it.

It's a few days & you have many foods you can eat.

I would prefer some ideas to make the week's meals a little more interesting than a patronising dressing down that I didn't ask for and definitely didn't need!

I think people are being rude as you posted in AIBU. But you just want menu ideas not an argument, lol. Isn't there a food or vegetarian board?
How about Quorn mince? That's pretty soft isn't it. Homemade soup but totally pureed.

That's true. And some people are on a bland diet for life. I've been thinking of them a lot. Must be so tough 😔

It doesn't clear from the intestine & affects the colonoscopy making it inaccurate.

Eyesopenwideawake · 05/09/2026 09:39

Seven days? I've had a couple and the restrictive diet was only three days beforehand.

Yes. All the ingredients I would normally eat. And those I wouldn't are on the 'yes' list. Hence my question for ideas during a worrying and stressful time. Thanks for your replies.
