Did anybody else’s coffee aversions stick?

I had lots of food and drink aversions when I was pregnant but coffee was the biggest one. The smell of it made me gag and throw up. I was only pregnant for 6 weeks and it’s now been 3 months, all of my other symptoms are gone but the aversion to coffee has stuck, it still makes me gag and throw up. I used to love strong black iced coffee and would drink it everyday, it’s so strange to me that I wasn’t pregnant for very long yet still can’t stand coffee 😢

So sorry for your loss OP.
This is very sad - life without coffee!!!???
I fortunately never lost my love of it, nor tea but I did completely lose my love of melted cheese after a terrible bout of food poisoning (not caused by cheese) and I wouldn’t touch it for years. Still rarely have it and I used to be a huge fan.

I hope coffee returns to your life soon.

Yes. I got this back in 1991 when pregnant. The smell of coffee became toxic, like ciggy smoke and made me gag just passing the posh ground coffee shop. Her we are 35 years later and I still hate the smell. It gives me headache now.

Me! I used to drink gallons of tea and a fair amount of coffee, went off them completely while pregnant and have never wanted to drink them again. The aversion isn't really there - I could manage to drink it if pushed and love the smell of coffee but just don't ever fancy it or want to drink it.

I know someone who still struggles with the smell of lamb cooking after having an aversion in pregnancy, and she’s now a grandmother.

Sorry for your loss x

I used to be an exclusive coffee drinker - no tea. Then got pregnant with my first and have not had coffee for 24 years!

I loved coffee, was a proper snob about it. Had Covid way back when it was a new thing and haven’t been able to drink it since. I couldn’t face it when pregnant but did go back to it.

sorry for your loss.

I had 2 losses and with both I couldn’t drink coffee. I then had my youngest and couldn’t stand coffee during that pregnancy either. By the time I went back to work (baby was 10 months) I was back to at least a cup - if not 2 - per day. I had many more aversions during my lost pregnancies than the other 2. Just one of life’s mysteries to me.

I’m so sorry for your loss, @op.

I didn't really get aversion to coffee as I could still drink the decaf instant coffee I have always drank, but my husband's brewed coffee smelt like strong but rancid chemicals when I was pregnant.

I got aversion to Vimto when pregnant. It's been 3 years since I had LO and the smell still makes me feel sick.

ToffeePennie · 04/09/2026 23:10

I didn’t like coffee before I was pregnant. When I was pregnant I had to walk the other side of the road to coffee shops as the stench would make me vom.
I’m now 8 years in and I still can’t stand the smell of coffee. It’s better than it was and I can now sit in a Costa without gagging but I can’t be in the kitchen when my husband brews his super strong black coffees. It’s revolting.

I was a proper coffee snob. Loved it. Stopped in pregnancy and went straight back with delight. Covid however fucked it. Not had coffee since 2020 and I miss it!
