I’m currently having to leave my rented home and am looking for somewhere else to live. I’m estranged from my family and don’t have a family home or relative I can fall back on if I can’t find somewhere, so I’m trying to explore every realistic housing option I can think of.
My yoga teacher knows generally about my housing situation. She lives with her partner but also has her own property, which she tried to sell last year without much success. She mentioned that she might try selling it again around the summer because she thought the market might be better.
I don’t know much about the property itself - whether it’s a house or flat (although I think it’s the former), how many bedrooms it has, etc.
I’m not considering asking her to let me stay there for free. I would pay rent and would be asking whether, if it worked with her plans for the property, she might consider renting it to me for a period.
I’m seeing her soon and was thinking of casually asking how things are going with the property first and putting some feelers out, rather than immediately asking outright.
Part of me thinks there’s no harm in asking. The other part of me feels quite vulnerable about it because she’s my yoga teacher rather than a close friend, and I’m conscious that asking opens me up to being rejected and potentially feeling awkward afterwards.
AIBU to even consider asking her?
