AIBU to be disappointed in a spray tan results?

I got a spray tan for the first time last week because I couldn’t be bothered to fake tan. I’ve fake tanned fairly regularly in the past.

I was told it would continue developing for 24 hours after I washed it off and it was an express tan. She told me to start exfoliating after day four. I told her I was getting it for a holiday.

Day one the colour was brilliant. It continued to darken and by day two it was perfect.

But then it started to come off. It wasn’t just going a little crusty, it was literally rubbing off against every item of clothing I wore. By day three it was pretty much all gone, and had gone all over my clothes. It washed off, but that’s kind of besides the point. I was expecting it to last a little longer?

AIBU? Is this just how a spray tan works? I’ve never experienced this before with a fake tan. It was like the guide colour was still coming off!

I wouldn’t expect it to rub off on your clothes however it would start going bad within a couple of days depending on what you’re doing.

In my experience spray tans arent long lasting. Ive only ever got them for a special occasion like a summer wedding.

That was what surprised me so much! I was hydrating and doing everything she told me to, but it was literally like I’d taken tan remover to it!

The artist told me it would last a week at least 😕

Did you exfoliate to prepare your skin before the spray tan? If not, then you're just spray tanning the top layer of dead skin cells which will obviously rub off easily once you do exfoliate.

It may be that the person who applied it for you was just not very good....it may come down to compatibility with your skin .... it may just be that spray tans just dont work for you....sorry!
