Contemplating whether to be SAHM? Do Universal credits pay more?

I am contemplating on whether to be SAHM.
There's hear say that it is better off being on benefits than working as wages go to childcare.

It would be a dream but it would mean one less wage and relying on my hubby's income which isn't enough to cover a toddler and a baby.

What are the thoughts of being a SAHM on universal credits after maternity leave?

Im on universal credit and work full time as a single mum on a fairly decent wage. If its on offer, why not take it? It makes my life a little easier with the single person tax and means i have a little extra for a small treat for my family eg a day out. Ive always worked and paid into the system

Well id say socialising aspects, separation from parents, independence ready for school life. Making friends with other children etc. i believe those are great benefits to kids. Personally back in the 80s i was a kid that never left my mums side until my first day at school. My mum was a SAHP which was fine BUT i remember being so upset my first few weeks at school as i hated being apart from my home/mum. Crying my eyes out, i couldn’t understand at the time why i had been left there. It was really hard for me.

My children always went to a childminder since age 9 months. They transitioned well to her and then school. Just my opinion 🤷🏻‍♀️

I believe research shows a clear benefit for kids re socialisation after 3 years old, maybe as low as 2. But before that babies don't need socialisation away from their main caregiver. It just adds stress with no outweighing benefits.

I say this as someone who sent her child to nursery before 2 years old, so no judgement.

Why have kids if you cannot afford them?

That's the real question.

It's interesting how many parents presume their kids will be there for them in old age. Many are forgotten in care homes ....

While I love my kids, I could would have been just as happy without them.
