AIBU to resent our team being moved to a disconnected basement office?

Am feeling resentful because of our office setup.

Recently, our workplace has grown to a significant degree and so it was decided that one of the teams would need to move to the basement. Guess who drew the short straw 😕

Yes, there are (small) windows, but it is dark and dingy. The biggest issue is that it is physically quite removed from the other staff on the other 4 floors. Because it was not intended to be office space originally, you have to go down a long corridor and then down a seperate staircase/lift to reach the basement. There is a different staircase and lift at the other end of the building that connects to the other 4 floors, so it’s quite a trek to see colleagues on, say, the 4th floor.

it feels like a ridiculous setup, with a lot of time traipsing back and forth… AIBU?

Can you suggest hot desking so everyone sits where they want on a first come first served basis?

Does each team actually need to sit next to each other?

Thanks. I should have said that hot desking is not appropriate for the type of business we are (can’t say more without being outing).

Let me guess: you’re a maverick detective working in Edinburgh? With an unlikely colleague named Akram?

Try not to worry: lots of people adore you …

Is it even safe to work there? Fire escapes etc

Can some of the work be done from home, even if only a day or two a week? Can one or more of you claim a medical reason for more light?

That was my first thought too

I see. Do you have a hybrid working policy? I would push to work from home more if possible.
