AIBU to refuse moving my son's car from a public road?

Our house is in a corner plot at the bottom of a cul-de-sac. We have converted half of our front garden into an additional drive so we now have parking for 3 cars, which we have.

Unfortunately our working hours can cause us problems when it comes to parking our cars as it’s a long single drive so cars are parked behind one another.

My DH and I both leave for work at 3.30am and sometimes my DS doesn’t get home from work until 11pm, so to save as playing musical cars at 3.30am (and potentially waking the neighbours) my DS parks on the road opposite when our shifts do clash. However, the people who live in the house were my DS sometimes parks in front of have been asking us to move and park somewhere else saying that they have family coming over and need the space, there is space for 4 cars, they had 1 car of family visiting. The last couple of times they’ve asked us to move we have, but now I’m really annoyed about it and have us much right to park there as everyone else as it’s a public road.

For clarity, we can’t park on the road in front of our house as we are in the corner and would block neighbours drives.

The sometimes is not daily I expect, and you know shifts in advance. So at least you can reduce when it happens.

Get a ring doorbell and when you can see it's them, just don't answer. They'll get fed up of ringing when they never get an answer. And if they catch you in the street, just say 'It's a public road, anyone can park anywhere.'

I used to live on a road where one man was an absolute dick about people parking on the road in front of his house, which he considered to be his space despite it being a public road. I reckon most streets with limited off-road parking have at least one over-entitled household like this.

In answer to your question, no you are most definitely not being unreasonable.

First come, first served. They will have to park further away if necessary. No big deal.

He didn’t park it there, he moved it and parked round the corner, but yes he usually gets up about 7am and moves it onto the drive.

If they don't want their visitor to have to park further away the answer is simple. They move one of their cars so their visitor can park on their drive.

Your son is legally parked and does not have to move.

Your son can and should continue to park there. Your neighours are being ridiculous.

(Neighbours house consists of 3 adults - all working - two large transit vans for work and 3 personal cars all jostling for space. Their drive just about fits two vehicles. All other cars on the street are in driveways. Neighbours place is an absolute eyesore - esp as they park at my front window. I dont say anything because its a public road and what else are they supposed to do.)

This is where people are so weird (and lazy it seems) to me. God forbid their guests having to walk a few metres to get to their house. Their poor little legs. Where I grew up my parents sometimes had to park a couple of blocks away and that was just how it was. This was in the 90s so that area must be awful for parking nowadays.

As already said, it's a public road, you can park there if you want. Sadly, some people become very "territorial" over what they perceive as "their" parking space.
I would try and minimise the number of times you park there.

oh just ignore them! While it's annoying that households have so many cars, it's obvisously needed for you. We have one car and a drive, we may have more cars if and when our teenagers start to drive but no need for more cars atm.

Our opposite neighbour has 4 cars and space for one on the driveway. It's just the way it is and as long as no one parks incredibly selfish or blocking someone in, it's just something to live with. Young adults can't afford to move out so stay with their parents longer = more cars

Do you mean these people have FOUR WHOLE SPACES on the public road in front of their house, and consider that they own all four even when they're not using them?
If that's the case they are truly the cheekiest of cheeky fuckers and it's time you had a weekend gathering of your nearest and dearest and parked in all four spaces for at least 72 hours.

Are you saying there are spaces for 4 cars and only your DS is parked there.

Either way DS doesn’t need to move his car.

You can obviously park there if it’s a public road, but why can’t your son move his car back on to the drive when he wakes up? Surely it’s safer there anyway ?
