The High Court have ruled that an autistic 10 year old boy should not have been permanently excluded after taking a replica knife to school which was subsequently used to threaten another child. It ruled exclusions should only be used in extreme circumstances.
This is going to make it very hard for schools to permanently exclude children who are violent, making the environment much worse for other children and staff. Would you want your child to continue primary education with a child who threatened them with a knife, even if it wasn’t actually sharp enough to hurt?
