Was I unreasonable to block this guy’s number?

I’m on a solo holiday in Europe and I was at the beach the other day. I want to preface with I’m a plus size woman, so not the most attractive in a swimsuit.

I noticed a guy sat a little way from me and smiled, he smiled back and then asked me to watch his stuff while he went to walk up and down the beach.

As he packed up to leave he asked for my number, I was too on the spot to say no so gave it to him.

He texted me three times, to ask me to come and meet him. I blocked him without answering because I’m alone, I’m not interested in a hookup, and I had plans that night.

My friend from home thinks I was horrible and should’ve told him I wasn’t interested! Was I unreasonable??

Sorry I just realised I left it out - I didn’t trust his intentions. I’m not that attractive and don’t see why anyone would want to hookup!

Of course you block and ignore. You don’t owe him anything. Don’t give it another thought and enjoy your solo break.

The unreasonable bit was giving him your number.
At an absolute push you give your number with the last two digits transposed.

I’ve literally never been in that situation before. It’s the first time ever that someone has asked me! I panicked

Perfectly reasonable to block a complete stranger you don’t want to talk to. I might have sent “I’m not interested in meeting, goodbye” before blocking but you don’t owe him anything.

I doubt he’s giving it much thought - probably happens quite often and probably quite often people either block him or give him a fake number. I’m sure he’ll get over it.

I feel how I feel about my body, if that’s something that also upsets you then it’s something for you to work on

Perfectly fine to block a number. Your post reminds me of the old Groucho Marks quote. ‘I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member’ - basically saying nowhere worthwhile would want him, so anywhere that did want him must be crap. I guess your applying same kinda logic to pool guy. Maybe you’re being unfair to you both. He clearly liked you.

You can block who you want but he hasn't done anything wrong. You smiled at him first, you gave him your number. You obviously have body issues, if you think you can't trust the intentions of anyone that would be interested in you, but plenty of men like curvy women. He might have been delighted you were engaging with him. I think just blocking people is childish and rude. You could have sent a "sorry, not interested" message first.

Good for you for knowing your boundaries. I’m sure if you’d liked him you would have suggested a coffee tomorrow. Have a great time tonight and for the rest of your holiday x
