To wonder if therapy work?

DD15 has been having therapy since early this year; there were some issues with self harm last year. I have reflected on this and I think various things have contributed to this:

School pressure as she is not very academic
Hormones: Things are definitely worse around her period/ovulation time.
She was being left alone to deal with everything
She took a course of antibiotics for 6 months for acne which may have contributed as well.

We have made lots of changes. Tutors to support with school, being more present in her life so she has someone to come to when feels low/stress/worry. Vitamins and probiotics to help with physical demands of growing up. Suggesting better sleep, excercise.

She seems happy most of the time; has ambitions, friends, goes out, laugh, look after herself. When she is low though everything is very negative; but as I said it seems to be around her period time. I tell her it is hormones, she said it is not and that she has felt like that for awhile but the rest of the time she seems fine. Period comes and she seems her normal self.

Anyway, it is £80 per week, and on top of tutors this is adding up. Plus I am finding difficult accommodating the appointments this year with tutors and work schedules.

Please tell me your therapy experience? Shall we continue? Or stop it?

I just have a long response from Therapist. Basically she uses some CBT but is not CBT trained. The Therapy is client oriented, basically talking therapy. She asked me to have a conversation with my daughter; also to think of what the ultimate goal is. Shouldn’t have this been decided between DD and Therapist now?

Perhaps hypnotherapy will be more effective

I have been seeing a hypnotherapist from time to time over the last 3 1/2 years. He's helped me so much with various things. It's solution focused hypnotherapy which concentrates on finding solutions to your problems, concentrating on what you CAN do and how to make changes.
I first went to see A. after I'd had several (unexplained) falls outside the front door and was very anxious about going out. (I was 75 at the time) He helped me to visualise going out confidently - and I worked on it and succeeded. Each session is talking through things then the actual hypnosis part. It's very relaxing and A talks to me, to my subconscious mind with suggestions and maybe a story with a meaning in it. I usually feel I've gone to sleep and can't remember a word he's said. But it really is beneficial to me.
He works with young people as well. Sessions are in person (which I always have) or online. £65 per hour is his rate.

It may not work for everyone, but might be worth looking into. Send me a message if you want any more info. (not sure how you do that!) Good luck.

Doesn't sound very satisfactory to me. A therapist should be fully trained and qualified, as is my hypnotherapist.

Honestly. I am thinking hypnotherapist may be more useful than talking therapy which could go on forever

can you share details privately please?

Edited

I've sent a message. Well, two, because I unintentionally sent the first before I'd finished. Ask anything else I might be able to help with. x

She does speak more to me about her feelings, dreams, worries. I am more present, keep an eye on her mental health or when she is feeling low. Validate her feelings more, etc.

That is great, but I was just suggesting that a 3rd party who has some distance but is still invested in her may be a useful addition to you. There may be times when you are too close for her to want to come straight to you? So having others in addition can be good.
