Why do parents let the children keep kicking the back on someone’s seat? I love kids but I don’t understand why parents allow them to do this

Some parents don't parent, others ignore given they are trying to cope with a fear of flying.

I’ve never had that. You must be unlucky.

It’s only an ahole parent that lets their kids do whatever they like. I once had get feet being pushed constantly into my back or kicked and a tray being put up and left to slam down over and over again. I turned around as if to u know get the parents attention. Well there were 4 kids all now bundled into the 3 seats behind me, a toddler on top of maybe a 6/7 yr kid and the rest all under 3. The parents in the row across and behind all sitting chatting to each other physically facing away from their kids and doing absolutely nothing about their kids awful behaviour. I really had to bite my tongue, if I had been able to catch the parents eye would have said something. I didn’t want to make a big deal of it but also travelling with young kids I know it’s hard but they were taking the piss.

I would have complained to staff.

Bad parenting? I have to constantly be watching mine in case they do this. It’s exhausting but necessary. I think you need to complain to staff if this happens
so they can have a word with them.

Surely ignoring them also counts as not parenting their kids?

Just inconsiderate parenting, I guess. Children need to be reminded not to be annoying to others.

Different issue, but I was on a flight recently where a family got on with two small children and a baby. The mum was carrying the baby in a front sling, gently pushing the other two kids in front of her and had two rucksacks on her back. The dad (I assume) put his wheelie case in the overhead locker and sat down opposite. The mum shepherded the two older kids into window and middle seat, then was trying to get the stuff they needed for the flight and putting bags under seats, while still holding the baby and not blocking the aisle. The toddler in the middle seat started kicking the seat in front. The dad shouted at her "He's kicking the seat. You need to stop him!", while she was trying to sort the baby's bottles and get the baby out of the sling. She was then left trying to simultaneously feed the baby while holding the leg of the offending toddler and stop him kicking the baby's head. I felt really sorry for her...

My 6 yo has autism and zero spatial awareness, he’s also incredibly fidgety and struggles to sit still. On flights and trains I have to pin his legs to prevent him from doing this. This has meant four hours of holding his legs down but I’ve done it because I don’t want to distress the passenger in front. I think in future I’ll select the seat in front to be my DH so I don’t have to worry so much.

And let them watch their tablet/ play games with sound on without headphones. Hate it.
