To be annoyed with friend?

NC and some details changed as would like some input in whether I'm being unreasonable

On holiday with friend of many years. Both been through divorce and the struggles of dating and been there for each other with a wine and laugh along the way. Friend seems to have found the elusive needle with younger gent in last few weeks and she is smitten. No luck my side but I'm pleased for her. Gent been away on work for 10 days but last night he was able to call round as was taking us to a Port early morning for our holiday, I was staying too to make journey easier and not to travel back on ourselves.
All fine and a nice evening and I went to bed as early start. About 20 minutes later I hear them come up to their/her room and without going in to too much detail it was clear they were having sex and despite best efforts to ignore them and sleep it was impossible to do so and went on for over an hour with her making most of the noise.

Part of me is annoyed as one, we needed to be up early and two, feel that as I have not found what she has that last night was a kick in the teeth for me. I am pleased for her but feel if it was the other way around I wouldn't have had such vigorous activities and been more respectful and definitely not for as long.
I'm not going to let it spoil our holiday and have not said anything yet , just feeling a bit jaded and maybe a little jealous

Find a gent of your own and endeavour to have noisier, more vigorous sex than them.

A sex-off, if you will.

Lmnop22 · 31/08/2026 21:33

I think you hit the nail on the head with being jealous, which whilst totally understandable is not reasonable.

She’s happy and you would want her to be happy for you if the roles were reversed so I would just try and push down any resentment and be happy for your friend who sounds like she deserves happiness and loud sex!

ApolloandDaphne · 31/08/2026 21:35

She was having sex with her boyfriend on her own bed, in her own house and you are annoyed? I'm not sure what you want in response here. You are clearly jealous but she has done nothing wrong. Go and enjoy your holiday. Have a laugh about it.

KitsyWitsy · 31/08/2026 21:37

Do not say anything if you're going to be all testy about it. Obviously you can't laugh about it because you're so bitter and peeved it's not you having it away in the night.

Your friend has every right to sex in her own home although, I admit she could have kept the noise down a bit for your sake.

gratefulmezze · 31/08/2026 21:41

As happy as you are for her, I'm sure it feels like she's showing off a bit...I mean she could have lowered the volume a little knowing she had a guest in the next room but chose not to...for a whole hour.

This. Her bed, her room, her place, her boyfriend, plus she was putting you up overnight and he was giving you both a lift to the airport? Yes, bastards, the pair of them.

Did you actually expect her not to have sex with her new boyfriend whom she hasn’t seen for ten days, and whom she’s not going to see again till after her holiday, just because you’re in the spare room?

Millytante · 31/08/2026 21:54

Ha! I was expecting some dreadful betrayal, yet your friend hasn’t sinned here.

(The one thing that’d get my mental gears stuck is people who have to be noisy during sex. As though a camera were in there too.
Anything like those regulation loud gasps/ moans, as though the gentleman were hitting you across the arse with a plank of wood every ten seconds would probably drive me to fury, in fairness. Not sexy at all)

NCmixedfeelings · 31/08/2026 22:03

Points taken and you're right.
If the subject comes up I'll just make a joke and have a laugh about it which is almost what happened earlier but I just said I was so tired I went straight to sleep.

Yes I would like what she has and it has made me more determined to do so, just the realisation I am alone whilst having a little cry to myself last night was hard to see then. It'll be fine, I'm on holiday and will rise above!

It's understandable but try to be happy for your friend. Maybe he has a single friend you'll end up meeting.

comeoncolleen · 01/09/2026 14:10

Blimey, that's some start for your holiday - no need to ask her if all is well in the bedroom!
Hope you have a lovely time.

AbsintheMakesTheHeartGrowFonder · 01/09/2026 15:00

I am pleased for her

You're really not, though, are you? That's the real issue here.

Your friend hasn't done anything wrong by having sex in her own home, and I strongly doubt she was aware that you could hear her. If people live alone they don't really have much of an idea how noise carries from one room to another.

Also, she's going on holiday with you and her boyfriend is kindly getting up early to drive you to the port; he's doing you a bloody favour. You could be a bit more grateful rather than being resentful because two adults in a relationship had a shag.

Ok thanks for all replies. I've moved on now and determined to forget it and just enjoy my holiday and no doubt we'll be laughing about it in a few days.

Well that's not strictly true regarding being nice to come over and offer a lift as I had booked a taxi weeks ago and cancelled a few days before when I knew of arrangement change.
The original plan was for me to return to friend house when we get back and drive to mine day after but I plan to drive straight home now so they can be alone

NinaGeiger · 01/09/2026 15:50

Did it seem like they were trying to be quiet but it was impossible (eg thin walls) or did it seem like they were doing it on purpose?
I think that would make a difference for me

trappedbynerves · 01/09/2026 15:56

So he was away for ten days, then hours after he's back she's off on holiday? It's not much of a surprise that they wanted to make the most of the hours before she had to get up and go.

With hindsight yes perhaps you're right and I should've packed my earplugs 😄
All forgotten now and water under the bridge
