Starting school. Feeling suddenly emotional

Dd4 is starting school this week. She is totally ready and I thought I was too. She can be hard work and we have no family support so the thought of having a day and a half every week to myself (I work pt) seemed like bliss! But now that’s it’s here I suddenly feel really teary and anxious. It’s the end of an era. She will never be little again and the quiet routine that has shaped our lives for the past 4 years has ended.

I know she’ll thrive and I’ll get used to it too but I just feel really emotional tonight. Could be hormones too! If anyone else is feeling like this it would be nice to hear. Dh thinks I’m being a bit ridiculous.

Of course you ANBU. Every milestone is a bit of a dual edged sword - it's wonderful to see them growing up and developing, but it's sad that they will never be that little again.

Be gentle with yourself tomorrow, but embrace all the new things that are headed your way - your DC being able to read and write - and giving you pictures / cards / and notes they have written independently. Watching them in assemblies and concerts. Enjoying them charging towards you at the school gate.

Perfectly normal. I would say it gets better but mine starts at college tomorrow and I am a nervous wreck tonight!

It’s a big life change so it’s bound to come with worries, but as someone who works in a reception class I can tell you I’m very excited to get to know all the new starters!

Aww it's totally normal to feel like this! When my youngest started school I felt quite bereft - suddenly I was walking around alone with no pushchair and it felt so odd! You do get used to it though and you will learn to relish your little bit of alone time ☺️ I'm sure you'll be cheerful and sunny at drop off time tomorrow but it's ok to shed a few tears once you're out of sight! Sending hugs 🫂

Thank you all. Just feel a bit blindsided as obviously I’ve known it was coming for so long and we’ve been preparing and it’s been fine. But now it’s actually here I’m having a major wobble.
