AIBU to think hotel breakfast in pyjamas is not acceptable?

AIBU yo think that adults should not arrive at the hotel breakfast in their pyjamas?

we’re staying in a city centre hotel. Nice place- nothing fancy, with breakfast included.

thus morning, 2 young women (prob early 20’s) came down to breakfast wearing short pyjamas, barefoot- clearly just out of bed. They were loud, and not overly polite to the staff either- “where are the plates” etc. just brash and abrupt.

Im generally not a fussy person but this sort of thing feels like a lowering of standards to me. I don’t think we saw stuff like this 10-15 years ago.

I don't think it's that new a thing - I remember being on a school trip abroad where we were staying in a hotel in the mid-90s and one table of girls getting a proper ticking off from the teachers for coming down to breakfast in their nightwear.

I wore my nightie to a hotel breakfast once. I was starving and didn't have time to get showered and dressed before breakfast finished, so went down in my nightie

It would take me less than a minute to take off a nightie and put on jeans and a t shirt. No excuse for going down in a nightie.

No one is stopping you, if you can afford it. There's a bloke who lives in 18th century and Regency clothing.

I have seen this many times. It's usually women, i haven't seen a man yet.. For reference, i have seen them at 5* hotels (Fairmont) and also at the 3 and 4 stars. It is becoming very common and it is downright disgusting. I wish i had complained at the Fairmont because they make a big point of lunch and dinner etiquette but there are no signs or pushback for brekky

Of course it is public!! You are mixing with other guests, plus many hotels do allow outside members of the public to come in and purchase breakfast, or any other meal of the day too.

And yet, the only place I have ever seen anyone wandering about the hotel in dressing gowns and jammas was an uber posh hotel in Canada.

I didn't have jeans and a t-shirt, I had one set of clean clothes and I wasn't getting dressed without having a shower first, and I needed to eat far more than I cared about how I looked.

Omg we were in Mauritius this summer and also saw an indian couple in pyjamas everyday at breakfast time, this was at Le Meridien

You could have had time for a quick shower. Surely? You must have been absolutely desperate to eat.

Because that is illegal.

The rudeness is unacceptable. As for the pyjamas I couldn't care less. Clothes are clothes, as long as they're not naked I don't see why it matters. And as for being unwashed, exactly how dirty does someone get sleeping?!

Fairmont is a pretty decent hotel. It was absolutely fine there.

TBF, there is the fashion right now to be wearing those slider things that look like slippers.

Their eyelash extensions and eyebrows and floppy mum buns divert you from their clothes 😂😂😂

I think the whole point is that standards in general have dropped dramatically. People don't seem to have any self-respect any more, or respect for others' feelings either. I would never have dreamt of going down to breakfast in any hotel without getting washed and dressed first - it's a matter of self-discipline and also not wanting other people to feel offended or embarrassed. Added to that, a lot of nightwear is light and quite transparent - do these people really want others to catch sight of their 'bits'?

Not sure how unhygienic you are not licking each other / the seats only your hands need to be clean
