Not to post on threads when the OP posts once and disappears

people have lives, I get that. But after several pages not to have come back is just rude.

One post wonders should be assumed to be trolls and banned from posting again.

One post wonders should be assumed to be trolls and banned from posting again.

Not wishing to derail the thread...but...could this ban extend to people who haven't bothered to read the OPs updates and just barge in with their totally made up/irrelevant interpretation of something that hasn't even happened.

Edited to add a missing space.

And yes, if I suspect the OP isn’t coming back I move on without wasting my time and effort.

Yes I've starting doing 'see all' and if there's one post, moving on.

Me too. Especially if there are 20 plus pages!

I seem to be in a minority. It doesn't really bother me. I can understand it's the norm to check back and respond but if they haven't I wouldn't be bothered. I have always responded on threads I've created. Unless someone has asked a question/for clarification then it's usually just 'thanks for replies'.

CalmFairy · 30/08/2026 10:47

It doesn't bother me at all if they come back or not.
But what i dont like it the really long post they write its like reading a chapter of a book, when they could get to the bloody point in a few words.
Most of the time I go to the comments to get the story, sometimes I go to the comments as I just dont get what is being asked.

And the title of some threads make no bloody sense.

Hobnobswantshernameback · 30/08/2026 11:03

Most of them are utter wind em up and watch em go bollocks.
Either that or started by MNHQ to generate traffic to the site
Nothing will ever be done about them as they almost always generate a big response and as we know on here these days it's all about the clicks

hardshoulderr · 10/09/2026 07:24

Mumsnet do not make up threads.

If it’s a longish thread, I check to see if the OP has contributed several posts. If they haven’t, I don’t bother reading it.

I agree.

Especially, when it’s a long post asking for help or opinions. Why bother if you’re not going to reply?

Imagine, asking a question in real life and then just walking away. It would appear rude.

I posted (under a different name) in Relationships once when I was feeling very upset about something and needed advice.
I was completely taken aback by the harsh replies I got and demands for more information, so I hid the thread and never went back.
Sometimes if you put yourself in the OPs position, it’s easy to see why they don’t come back.
The ones that engage a lot are often looking for an argument or they are not genuine posters.
