AIBU to think drunken behaviour is ruining outdoor gigs?

Went to see Pulp last night at Wythenshawe Gardens. They were absolutely fantastic (as was Self Esteem supporting). I'm a Pulp fan and was really excited. I realise it's outdoor and people are going to have a few beverages and have a chat and a good time but behaviour at outdoor gigs seems.ti be getting worse. It seemed to be full of absolutely hammered middle aged men and women, who clearly only knew 2 sings, couldn't stand up and were just shouting at each other during any song that wasn't Common People or Disco 2000. And they've paid £80 plus £10 a can for the privilege. The group right in front of me (it was too late to move at that point ) had their backs to the stage most of the gig, were shouting at each constantly and kept falling into me. What i don't understand is why they paid to get in...why didn't they just go to the pub or a club. Surely they're not going to remember anything.

One lady decided to hold her phone aloft with the torch on pointed at the back of the crowd to be a beacon to get her friends to the same spot but blinding everyone behind. Someone took offense and asked her to stop as it was in his eyeline and blocking his view and she just had a go at him and started shining her torch in his eyes. Just pure entitlement (this was during the performance).

I realise I'm getting older and less tolerant but it's definitely been getting worse. Genuinely do not see the point of spending a lot money to get hammered and not remember a thing to see bands you're not even fans of (and annoying everyone else).

Anyway rant over. Pulp and Jarvis were incredible as ever (what a front man) but I may stick to indoor gigs from now on.

It was on the turn last night, I'm really glad I didn't wear my speziales and wore just normal white trainers. However if its been raining today I'd be tempted to wear walking shoes or boots as was getting slippy last night. Still.really warm though didn't need a long sleeve top last night. My tip , no queues for loos or bar or food when we got there at 7. Then 7.30 onwards just got really really busy.

I was there last weekend for The Cure and Lewis Capaldi. We saw no trouble at all. Both nights everyone was having a ball, certainly where I was standing anyway.

But there was about 35000 people there each night. By the law of averages, a large chunk of them will be arseholes. I think I was lucky not to be surrounded by any of them, whereas you obviously were. It's a shame but I don't think you can blame outdoor gigs. Possibly if you had been stood just a short distance away your experience may have been very different.

We should just stop serving alcohol to the women at gigs and serve only the men.

And yes, crap happens at indoor gigs too.

When DM and I saw Take That a couple of years ago there was a couple a few rows ahead of us sat vaping throughout.

Disgusting sickly sweet fruity smoke blowing back in our face. Luckily quite a few people around them complained to the stewards and they actually moved but it was well over an hour we had to put up with it.

It’s awful. I’m this close to stopping going to live events full stop. It’s not just that people areannoying - thats bad enough. It’s the threat of violence if you say something.Earlier this year we had to leave a an indoor event cos I just knew it was going to kick off - and it did. Races are like this too now.

Who would just give it to the women!

One drink per hour per customer. 👊 Per male customer, that is.

there will always be pissed up people behaving badly at gigs in parks, especially theses sorts of bands that mostly old people like.

many of them won't be bothered about the act and are just going for the social and £100 isn't much for a lot of folk in 2026.

in any event Jarvis is most famous for getting pissed up and disturbing other people's performances, the King of Pop no less, so really they are just following his lead and you should accept it.

I was there last night and it wasn’t muddy, I’m glad I wore boots not trainers but it wasn’t bad underfoot at all.

It's middle aged people who ruin it these days. They can't take the drugs and drink they used to any more and have no off switch.

It happens at indoor concerts and shows too. We went to the Whitney Houston Bodyguard show last year and the audience were awful. They were talking, going to get drinks, waving at friends etc... As a primary school teacher I said to my friend who is a Nursery Nurse that we have no chance asking young children to sit still and be quiet when their parents can't.

Surely everyone who goes to Pulp concert in the middle of a field knows the correct etiquette is "Es and wizz" not beers.

God I’m glad I only go to metal gigs and festivals. You don’t get any of this kind of behaviour at Bloodstock or Desertfest, people are lovely.

Apparently the Cure gig at the same venue had the same problems not sure why!

It was the youngsters here - surely they could go to the back to talk ? It would be better for their voices too : and it happens indoors as much as outside - selfish idiots

We were at Pulp, it was brilliant. But yes other people can be very annoying. There were 3 young lads in front of us who kept getting on each other's shoulders. So no-one around them could see. And don't get me started on people filming the whole bloody thing!

I was saying to DH that I don’t get why people film it. They’re never going to watch it so it must be for social media. But it was an older crowd and I imagine the number of phones at gigs with a younger crowd is probably even higher. Maybe it’s just a sign that I’m old now and out of touch.

I wasn’t complaining my view was ruined. I was saying that I was watching people standing having a chat. She had a foot problem and had been standing for hours and actually that woman looked like she wanted a fight with anyone who slightly annoyed her. We’d been to another outdoor concert a few weeks previously and my DH did same for a couple of songs. No one cared.

I was at The Cure, stood around about there 😄. We saw no trouble at all.

But you can see the size of the crowd, there could easily be outbreaks of all sorts throughout the crowd, the majority would still carry on having a great time, but if you're stood next to it then obviously it will affect your experience.

Yes, I was at Pulp last night and the crowd around me were really into the music, thankfully - my only problem was just how tightly packed together we were, which isnt something that used to bother me. I did see people getting quite aggressive on the way out though.
