Promotion and TTC? conflicted

I’m conflicted, as per title. I have just been given verbal confirmation of a promotion. Long story short, I applied for it about 6m ago, didn’t get it but was very close second. Was told that I scored highly enough to be appointed if the same role came up. I kind of took it as they were being kind/trying to offer some consolation, didn’t buy into it too much. However fast forward 6m and the job has indeed come up and I got a call, verbally offering it to me. No written confirmation just yet but it was just today.

The issue is, DH and I had agreed to TTC our second from September, after I’d been umming/ahhing as at the time I was focused on my career.

DH thinks we shouldn’t postpone, and I get it. But, I also don’t want to start a new job and get pregnant asap

Age of DC is 6. I am 32, DH is 35

YABU - don’t plan life around work , you don’t know how it will work out and TTC can take ages
YANBU - it would be bad to start a Senior role and leave your new team in the lurch within the first year

Of course you should go for the job.

Take the role, get paid more, go back at a higher level.

It takes ages to grow a baby even after you’ve got pregnant.

Take the job, congratulations on your promotion! I was totally blindsided by early miscarriages when TTC so DS came a year later than planned. My point being you never know what will happen. Good luck!

Personally I think as you are already working for the company you should go for the job. If you conceive thats brilliant take maternity leave. Otherwise you will always wonder

We were going through IVF and I was offered a massive job by a major car manufacturer in one of their subsidiaries. Hugh wage increase, top of the range company car, large benefits. But we had to move 120 miles so I turned it down...no regrets although IVF didn't work for us

Take the job. I’ve just promoted someone who’s 5 months pregnant. She’s brilliant. So I’ll recruit to her mat leave cover.
Any decent employer wants the right person. Don’t put your life on hold for work.

Thank you all, I just don’t want to be that person who starts a job and then goes off fairly soon. Although I know that’s irrational because I have a long time left working even with a mat leave gap ! I worry about how it looks but of course I know I’d be silly not to take up the offer

I would 100% take the offer and put off TTC until December.

Its only a couple extra months and if you do get pregnant quite quickly, you’d have been in the job almost a year before your maternity starts and will feel much more confident going back.

I may be wrong but I think parents could share the maternity leave now and so you might find you only want a few weeks off and then go back PT and share it with your DH.

Congratulations on your new job.

Take the job and put off TTC for a year given you're still young. There will already be a big age gap so it doesn't matter from that perspective. Opportunities can be few and far between so take them when they come and give them your best shot

Someone else could take the job and already be pregnant, or get pregnant shortly after starting, and you would kick yourself.

Or TTC might not be as straightforward as last time (hopefully not) and you may regret not taking the job.

Wait for the actual confirmation and take the job. Home life is more important than work life - I say that as someone who has prioritised work too often. Now looking back I do have regrets, I can't change the past but I can pass on my advice for you to take it or leave it. Good luck with it all.

This x100. My daughter should have been having twins at the end of this month but miscarried in march and still not pregnant. She's 33. Don't put things on hold.
