Recruitment question - reply to recruiter?

DS, 18, had an interview last week which he felt went well. He had an update email today saying it’s now down to him and one other candidate. The next step is for the recruiter to discuss with the MD and then they’ll let him know.

I think he should reply, but not sure how?? It’s a trainee role and in his preferred sector. He isn’t sure he ‘needs’ to reply.

Should he reply and what should it say without sounding like he’s desperately pleading “pick me!”

I would. Something along the lines of thanking them for letting you know, that he's happy to be still in the running and should they need any additional info to contact him, otherwise he looks forward to hearing their decision.

It doesn't have to me pick me, but at least lets them know he's communicative and stil interested.

I am a recruiter, he doesn't "need" to reply but a nicely written and polite reply is never going to harm his chances.

Something along the lines of

"Hi,
Thanks very much for the update it is much appreciated, I just wanted to take the opportunity to say how great it was to meet with XXXX last week and how keen I am on the company and the opportunity.

Thanks,
Ops son"

Don't make it over the top or too long.

I don't think there is any harm in replying, being grateful for the opportunity to meet them, reconfirming his interest, commitment and excitement to the role etc
