Doubled up on wegovy

Ok so I’m truly cheesed off with myself because I’ve gained a disgusting amount of weight so on Sunday I started Wegovy 025mg. This morning, having not noticed any appetite suppression Ive injected again as last time I did it the 0.5mg worked perfectly.

will this be ok? Bit late to ask I know!

Who can say if it will be ok?! No one with any sense should just reassure you. It’s a much larger dose than you are supposed to start with, even if you have taken that level before. You may experience gastric upset or find it hard to eat at all. Or you may find that it has no noticeable side effects. Let’s hope it’s the latter.

Is it not possible for you to be patient and use the medication as prescribed? If you’ve used it before you will know that it builds up in your system each week, meaning the effects will build up too. It’s never meant to immediately produce the intended effects on the 0.25mg dose, injection one.

You'll be fine but it was a daft decision, as you know. You have to give your body time to adjust to medicine, and the titration rules are there for a reason. Expect some digestive discomfort and keep an eye out for the warning signs of something worse.

AnotherPidgey · 25/08/2026 12:01

It takes time to build in your system and digestive side effects are more likely to occur as you adjust to taking it. It's normally about 24-48 hours to notice.

You're unlikely to have done major harm, but you are more likely to have nausea/ toilet issues...

It's important to also have enough appetite to eat nutritiously and compensate for reduced intake.

LuckyHazelFox · 25/08/2026 12:04

Don't do it again! You won't see suppression that quickly. It took 2 to 3 days for me. I'm finishing last dose of 0.25 mg tomorrow and in 4 weeks I have not been able to eat a full meal. Slow and steady you need to go.

Loulou4022 · 25/08/2026 12:04

It’s only been 2 days so you haven’t really given it time to get into your system! I personally wouldn’t overdose again as the more often you do it the greater the possible risk of side effects!

Shoxfordian · 25/08/2026 12:09

Bad idea really, hope you don't feel too unwell

Mumof1andacat · 25/08/2026 12:17

Does your provider offer psychological support along side providing treatment?

ColdAsAWitches · 25/08/2026 12:19

Oh FFS. I bet you stop taking antibiotics when you start to feel better too.

KitsyWitsy · 25/08/2026 12:23

The OP has been on it before though, so probably needs a higher dose overall.

I have had to restart MJ a few times but don't go straight up to my previous dose but get there pretty quickly. Absolutely pointless titrating up from the bottom when you're a seasoned user.

I am not familiar with Wegovy but if you were on it before, you should be ok.

Not Wygovy, but when I started Mounjaro I zipped through the starter dose with jabs ever 3 days (which is the minimum gap, according to the leaflet for Mounjaro). I then zipped through second dose but this time with 5 days between doses. I settled at the third dose weekly for quite a while.

My logic for doing this is that I was morbidly obese (BMI > 40) and so logically figured there was a lot of me. Physically a lot of body mass, a lot more fat, larger blood flow and do on, for the drug to get to compared to those less obese. So it logically made sense to me that I'd likely need to higher doses.

So far I've lost over 7st and haven't yet gone above 10mg (fourth of six dose strengths) Mounjaro.

SilenceInside · 25/08/2026 12:46

Mounjaro and Wegovy aren't medications that are weight-based for dosing though, so that "logic" doesn't apply. Someone who weighs 22st like I did when I started Mounjaro could get the same effects from the medication as someone who is 12st for example. Once it's into your bloodstream it works on your system the same regardless of how much extra fat you're carrying. The 2.5mg dose had an immediate effect on me, and if I'd have decided to inject again after 3 days I'd have made myself feel very unwell given how strongly my system reacted to it.

Hopefully @babyt2020 will be ok this week and not suffer any extreme effects.

Logically! Unless you've got a medical degree, you're in no way qualified to make decisions like that. There's a reason that these things are prescribed at certain doses. Why would you risk your health like that?

babyt2020 · 25/08/2026 15:43

I am admittedly both very silly and impatient

There are many, many, MANY people click counting, or micro dosing, or spacing out doses more than 7 days, or split dosing more frequently than 7 days. Or many of the other off prescription options that people do.

Many.

Desist with your pearl clutching.

Off prescription WLI dosing happens routinely.

And if many people jumped off a cliff, would you jump too? Just because lots of people are idiots doesn't mean someone shouldn't be pulled up on it if they admit it. Thinking you know better than the professionals that prescribe medication is the definition of stupid.
