AIBU to find eating bone marrow rather revolting?

To think that bone marrow to eat is quite revolting by nature? Im seeing it more and more often in restaurants and it seems to be a trending thing. But the jellylike glutinous disgustingness really puts me off. And the fact it's from the middle of a bone. Or maybe iabu and i'm just being a grumpy old woman! (i'm 45).

You've just reminded me how good the jelly in a pork pie is 😋

Not sure how it is any more disgusting than eating animal meat?

There's a lot to be said for nose-to-tail eating and not wasting so much.

You are totally right. But i just can't get on board with the bone marrow for some reason!

Love the stuff. Very good for you too.

mindutopia · 20/08/2026 20:54

OP, have you seen how a hot dog is made? 😂

It’s delicious and highly nutritious

7238SM · 20/08/2026 21:05

Well if you don't like it, don't buy it or order it in a restaurant then! 🤷‍♀️

FuzzyBumbleeBee · 20/08/2026 21:08

I couldn't eat it straight out of the bone as I have a bit of a thing about the texture but if I have bones I will crack them so I can get the marrow out for cooking soups and sauces
Id like to use up as much of the animal as possible if I'm going to eat it

TroysMammy · 20/08/2026 21:08

Seeing and listening to my partner sucking on bones makes me feel sick.

Hycosaneyedrops · 20/08/2026 21:10

YABU.

It’s a common and easily accessible, cheap food in many countries and cultures.
It’s nutritionally dense and a delicacy in many places.
Just because you don’t like it, it doesn’t warrant insulting it or starting a pointless thread online about it.

Don’t like it? Don’t eat it.

Love the marrow out of a lamb bone once it has gone cold and have done since I was a child. I used to poke the end of a teaspoon down the bone and poke out the marrow, delicious.

Exactly this.

@Scarfitwereit can be served quite unappetisingly in restaurants. The best… is from lamb shanks that have been stewed or ossobucco. This is the food of the gods

TheVeryAngryBanana · 20/08/2026 21:23

It's amazing served still in the bone out of a hot oven with toast and coarse salt. I've never seen it served in the uk though. Like fine fluffy delicate pâté

TheChosenTwo · 20/08/2026 21:25

It’s incredibly tasty, I like beef bone marrow spread on toast with salt. About once a year 😂

Nope. I’m with you. I’m an (almost) complete nose to tail carnivore but the texture and sickly richness of bone marrow just turns my stomach. I put it in the brains and tripe bucket = just no.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 20/08/2026 21:29

Don't eat it then. It's not as if someone is going to make you eat it.

dottiedodah · 20/08/2026 21:52

This reminded me as a child my dad used to feed me it on the end of a spoon! More recently we went for lunch at a Riverside restaurant. DS was shocked and neither of us ate it!

nocoolnamesleft · 20/08/2026 21:55

A good bone marrow gravy is amazing.
