AIBU to worry my daily Instagram stories may annoy friends?

Was briefly talking to a colleague today who complained she’d hidden someone from social media because of constant pictures.

I do post most days to my Instagram ‘story’ which is then shared to Facebook. Wondering now if I’ve been annoying people for a long time …

Of course you have

Didion · 20/08/2026 10:38

Every day?! That's a lot

NovaForesta · 20/08/2026 10:39

Yeah I hide some of my friends’ profiles 😂

FookFookFook · 20/08/2026 10:40

Nah …. The whole point of social media is to see other people’s stories and pictures! Keep posting OP!

Waitingfordoggo · 20/08/2026 10:40

I don’t use Insta but occasionally pop onto FB (much less than I used to because it’s mostly ads and ‘reels’ now). Sometimes ‘stories’ appear from my acquaintances; I tend to just ignore them. If I’m honest, it does make me wonder if the person is a little bit self-absorbed with too much time on their hands, but I also realise that humans aren’t all the same and I guess people have their reasons for doing it, whatever those might be. But I ignore stories and reels either way.

IPM · 20/08/2026 10:40

Yeah you probably have.

But they can always hide you.

Berlinlover · 20/08/2026 10:40

It all depends on what you’re posting. If it’s pictures of what you had for breakfast every morning that would irritate people very quickly.

HumptyDump · 20/08/2026 10:41

Yeah they’ve prob got you hidden that’s what I do if I don’t want to unfriend but they’re spamming

EssCarGo · 20/08/2026 10:41

Just hide them from seeing your stories maybe?

Ablondiebutagoody · 20/08/2026 10:42

Probably. I doubt that many people care what you are doing every day. But they can just turn off updates from you. That's what I do

FookFookFook · 20/08/2026 10:42

What are people going on social media for if not to look at other peoples posts and stories?

amiveryannoying · 20/08/2026 10:42

EssCarGo · 20/08/2026 10:41

How do I do that?

It isn’t breakfast or anything like that (well, only very occasionally …)

I think I need to work more 😅

What do you post every day?

Hycosaneyedrops · 20/08/2026 10:43

100%, especially if they’re seeing the same boring posts across two different platforms.

amiveryannoying · 20/08/2026 10:44

Watchoutfortheslowaraf · 20/08/2026 10:42

What do you post every day?

At the moment it’s the things I’ve been doing with the children, but in term time just what I’ve been up to with my 2/3 year old, whether that’s a class or library or park visit or whatever.

Sherararara · 20/08/2026 10:47

I would expect so. I only have one friend who does this - constantly posts on social media and it’s just cringe validation seeking sharing every detail of her and her families lives fishing for compliments, sympathy or whatever.

That would bore the living #££% out of me. I'd be surprised is anyone is reading it.

amiveryannoying · 20/08/2026 10:49

Every detail wouldn’t be particularly positive but it is a handful of photos from the day; so yesterday was a forest trail we did, the day before was a visit to an adventure playground. Sometimes it’s only one, other times might be a few more.

Maybe the colleague was trying to tell you something op? Do they get many views on insta?

Go into your Settings and then into Story, Live and Location and you can stop certain people from seeing your stories 👍

Dontevenlookatme · 20/08/2026 10:52

Out of interest who are you posting them for?

Thank you ☺️

I generally get around 30 views ‘per story’ but I don’t have thousands of followers or anything. About 200 on Instagram, about 300 on Facebook. Maybe colleague was trying to tell me something - I did wonder!

That’s an awful lot of personal information to share. I would not be comfortable with that.

Anyhow… would I watch your stories? Probably not. I don’t really use instagram despite having an account.

But your friends / followers aren’t forced to watch them either. The people who do are probably interested (or simply bored)…

whether their interest is necessarily benign? Who knows. But that’s a different question.

Why do you feel the need to share such mundane parts of your life with anyone other than your children's father/maybe grandparents?

If everyone you knew posted every time they went to the supermarket or picked up their children from school or got milk out of the fridge, would you get bored of that and block/hide all their posts?
