AIBU to wonder what caused this frightening fainting episode years ago?

I'd totally forgotten about this happening until I found my phone from the time and the texts I sent to my best friend after it happened. It happened six years ago.

I was sitting at my desk when suddenly I couldn't breathe properly and was so exhausted I physically couldn't move. My phone was on the other side of the room and I can remember trying to get to it and then passing out. I woke up a bit later and felt absolutely fine.

It was genuinely terrifying. I'd taken some cold and flu tablets because I'd had a headache and put it down to a reaction to them. Anyone have any ideas what it could have been?

I've had this when I've been anaemic. But could also be menstrual related or severe stress. Or part of the flu coming on - did you become ill afterwards? Has it ever happened again?

It's never happened again, thank God.

I can't remember if I was ill after it.

That sounds really stressful, but I find it more strange/potentially worrying that you forgot it happened?

Great that it never happened again though!

I have psychogenic blackouts. Could it be that ?

Tbf, I had a nasty accident shortly after (not related, was jumping my horse and we had a rotational fall) so it just went out of my mind I think.

It probably was the cold and flu tablets?

Floppyearedlab · 19/08/2026 22:10

Some sort of vascular migraine?

Bending at just the right angle can compless your vagus nerve causing a vaso vagal response or faint. Your blood pressure drops and you black out. Usually nothing to worry about

Did it have phenylephrine? Fainting is a rare side effect.

Do you have any BP or heart issues even a low BP?

You should have seen a doctor.
