I’ve come down with this summer flu and woke up this morning feel shocking. Nausea, dodgy tummy, headache, spinning room.
DH has offered to stay home but as DC is 6 and he’s had a lot of annual leave recently due to summer hols I’ve said for him to go to work.
We were supposed to go swimming today, as I had the day booked off work.
This is my only day off this week with DC and I’m sad that we will now be stuck in.
AIBU to ask for Any ideas on entertaining or having a nice day still, as my brain isn’t working today
6yo DC (girl)

TV on, lazy screen day. Feel no guilt at all.

mumonthehill · 19/08/2026 07:22

Toy story film marathon!

Loulou4022 · 19/08/2026 07:23

Duvets on the sofa and have a day in front of the tv!

StolenTeapots · 19/08/2026 07:23

Order pizza and eat it on sofa with a movie

I know I shouldn’t feel guilty but I’m so sad for the lost day - especially as today looks like it will be a sunny day! It is what it is though.

My DS was a little younger than yours last time this happened to me but I used to think of games where I was lying down and he was active.

hide and seek (I would hide under covers of various beds and he had to find me) or doctors where I was the patient (I got plasters and bandages out)

Other than that give yourself permission that it might just be a watch a movie day. All day.

There was also o thread on here a while back with a poster in a similar position who did a “I’m 6 ask me anything” and we all asked questions to keep her little one entertained……..

This! Her favourite movies and cartoons. Dose yourself up and lay on the sofa with her.

Can she paint your toenails and fingernails, then draw pretty patterns on your arms like tattoos

You only have to lie there and she gets to be creative and it will take ages

Love this!!! Adding it to my list ❤️

Mine now would be very happy if I was ill so that they could have a whole day of screens 🙈

Is she quite crafty? Do you have any easy craft sets if so (we used to store stuff from Xmas for rainy days to do).
You could do YouTube draw with Rob if she does like art activities.
Also junk modelling! Mine absolutely loved that. Check the contents of the recycling bin and find some tape for her to throw some bits together and then tell you what she has made.

Set up a little tea party with dolls or teddies.

Day time bath. Let her have a splash around for fun earlier in the day with less pressure to get out and ready for bed.

Play a board game.

Listen to some music and she can have a dance.

Thank you all, some amazing ideas

Yes she is crafty so the idea of drawing up my arms sounds fab

Scavenger hunt in the house - get them to write and draw the list with you.
Find 5 blue squares
3 yellow things
Something you drink from
...that sort of thing

My kids always enjoyed a game of sink or float. Bucket of water in the garden, big range of household and garden objects, pen and paper to record predictions and results.
Also then use the bucket of water and some washing up liquid to give the dolls and Barbie’s a bath.
